I called Aamco for an estimate to have my transmission rebuilt.  Clara, at Aamco, quoted $2200-$2800.  This was much cheaper than the dealer had estimated, $4600, so I took my car to Aamco.  After their mechanics inspected my car, Clara called me to confirm her estimate and get my permission to begin work.  I called two days later to see when I could pick up my car and Clara stated that the total cost would be over $4300 due to unexpected parts they had to order.  This was a classic bait and switch.  I ended up paying $4200.  This place is a rip off!

I was called by the owner, Steve, of Aamco Transmissions Norwalk.  Steve was very pleasant and wanted to hear from me why I was unhappy with the service provided by his shop.  After explaining to Steve what happened, he was very sympathetic and immediately offered to remedy the situation and my concerns.  He offered to extend the warranty to lifetime and offered to return $300 to me, which he has done.  I was pleasantly surprised at Steve's offer.  I was duly impressed that the owner would call me to try to resolve the situation.  Steve also gave me his personal cell phone number.  He said that I could call him anytime, if I had any future issues with service.

I understand exactly how Steve must have felt having to call a disgruntled customer since I am also a business owner.  I have had to call unhappy customers, on rare occasion, and try to make things right for them.  I appreciate Steve's professionalism is reaching out to me.

I believe a mistake was made by an employee and the boss immediately took action to correct the situation.  As a result, I now have a different opinion about this business.  I will, therefore, continue to use Aamco Transmissions Norwalk for any future transmission repair needs I may have.  I would also unhesitatingly recommend Aamco Transmissions Norwalk to anyone else needing transmission repairs.  This shop and its owner stand behind their work.  This is definitely not a "rip off" business.  Actually, it is quite the opposite.

You have no idea what you are talking about!  You probably work for Aamco.  After Aamco inspected my car and ran their tests, they called me to confirm the estimate they gave me on the phone.  What part of that statement don't you understand?  I knew of no other problems with the car.  I even showed Aamco the report that the Acura dealer gave me on the problem.  So, no I was not hiding anything that I already knew about.  You shouldn't be commenting on something you have no personal knowledge of.  Or do you?

It is NOT a bait and switch. Its called a GENERAL ESTIMATE. Which means that NORMALLY the price is between 2200-2800. But due to unforeseen circumstances, such as MORE parts needed to fix YOUR problem, the price goes up. They are doing the work, and they were honest with you when you called. This is just the cost to fix YOUR transmission problem. You probably had more damages to your transmission then they normally see, thereby needing more parts. Im 100% sure that the nice lady told you the price and probably said something like "unless there is a bigger problem then its going to cost a bit more". But just like EVERY OTHER CONSUMER out there. You ONLY remember hearing what you wanted to hear.

To me, it looks like you actually saved some cash because the dealer was going to charge you more then they did. So it begs the question, that you KNEW the dealership was going to charge a certain amount, yet STILL complain when someone else charges you close to that. It means that YOU KNEW there was a bigger problem then just say a clutch plate being replaced. So this ENTIRE POST is just you whining because you didnt get away with ONLY paying 2200-2800. Maybe next time take better care of your car and keep up on the maintenence so you dont have to pay that much again.

This is NOT a ripoff. It is NOT a scam. This customer KNEW that the repair was going to really cost to fix. They tried to find someone else to do it and it cost a similar price. They are just complaining because they couldnt get away with a cheaper fix. Sorry to tell you this but AAMACO DID NOT ruin your transmission. It was YOUR driving habits that caused the issue. So why blame them when YOU caused the problem?

Oh thats right, youre just another American Consumer who thinks the world revolves around them and expects EVERYONE to buy their BS story. Well I have done my own transmission work and I can tell you it is a heavy and messy job to do. One mistake and you could be tearing that transmission down and putting it back together. I feel this consumer HAS NO IDEA what is involved in a transmission repair and due to that ignorance, now complains because it costs too much.

Note that in their own post, they state " due to unexpected parts they had to order". Which means this consumer probably DID NOT tell the AAMACO people that they KNEW the general problem. Im thinking this consumer thought they could TRAP AAMACO into a lower bid and force them to eat the rest of the repair costs, they probably also threatened the AAMACO people with negative reviews even KNOWING that the transmission problem was that severe.
