I had been using Etsy for years, but I will never use it again because they've left such a distate in my mouth. I ordered a solid gold bracelet that I fully paid for, and I was really excited to get. Overnight, the seller unilaterally cancelled my order and initiated a refund because the item was "priced wrong," yet it was priced above melt value. The item was relisted for $200, which is really unprofessional and greedy. I learned way too late the Etsy platform allows sellers to unilaterally cancel paid for orders for any reason. That is so fundamentally unfair to buyers that they have no say in cancelling an order, but the seller can cancel a buyer's order for any reason. To make matters worse, Etsy does not allow you to call out unprofessional sellers because you cannot review a cancelled order. And when you complain to customer service, they give you a song and dance about how they cannot control other shops but they will keep a look out for more bad behavior. Maybe its lucrative to sell on Etsy, but as a buyer, it is not in your favor to shop on Etsy. Literally anywhere else will have a better policy.
