Received a letter saying they were unable to approve my recent loan application. I never applied for a loan! Concerned about how they got my personal information.

Contacted the consumer credit agency listed and put a "fraud alert" on my account. At least I feel a little "safer" now.

Like others on complaining about receiving emails and phone calls about a so called application approval that never existed, I too received the same. Here is what you do at least for the email spamming from RoadLoans.com a.k.a TriadFinancial.com Many ISPs (internet providers) allow you to setup email filters based on certain criteria. I set mine to bounce every email related to them right back at them times 10 for each spam email they send me (including their reject messages). It got so bad their IT department begged me to stop but I won't remove my email filters. It got so bad that a few spam emails from them resulted in thousands of email being sent right back to them! Serves them right! Yes they are a really low quality company to do business with. Any business that hides behind multiple domains and company names you should ALWAYS AVOID because that means they are hiding something. Finally a company that is well run would not use a no name firewall as they do which by the way is Barracuda Spam Firewall. They stupidly put that right in their reject emails!

Possible identity theft

A few things I would do, especially since they contacted you: 1. Request a copy of the loan application from them. They shouldn't have any problem furnishing one to you. 2. Fraud alert - you did this! Good for you! 3. Obtain a free copy of your credit report because of this "denial." Per the FCRA you are entitled to a free credit report because of this denial. This free credit report is in addition to the annual free credit report you are entitled to. 4. Contact law enforcement and file an identity theft complaint (this is why you want a copy of the loan application.) 5. File an identity theft complaint with the FTC (after you get a copy of the loan application.) The reason you want to file an identity theft complaint with law enforcement (and get a copy of your complaint - takes about 3 weeks) is to protect yourself SHOULD something pop up on your credit report. It's much easier, and quicker, to get your credit reports corrected if you can provide a copy of the police report and the FRAUDULENT loan application when you write to the CRAs to have the item removed. Good luck.
