Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I entered a contest on the Buckmasters web site some months ago, being careful to note that it was a contest entry only, that I was not making any purchase or signing up for membership. Some time later, I received a bill for $130.90 for a Buckmaster membership in the mail. I called their toll-free number to let them know that I had not ordered any membership, but they insisted that I had and refused to remove the charge. They have continued to send bills, dunning notices, and today even a letter threatening collection activity. They have also been calling me on my cell phone demanding payment. Each time, I have explained to them that I did not order anything, will not pay for anything, and that they should remove the charge and cease their harassment.

Today, I have done some research on the company and find that they have 342 complaints filed against them with the Better Business Bureau. I also did a google search on the web and found numerous other complaints about this same scam. So I have filed formal complaints with the Better Business Bureau of Alabama (where they are located), with the US Postal Inspector, and with the Attorney General of Alabama. If you have been scammed by this or any other company, I suggest you do the same. Here are the URLs where you can file your complaints:

Attorney General of Alabama: http://www.ago.state.al.us/consumer.cfm

US Postal Inspector: https://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/contactUs/filecomplaint.aspx

Better Business Bureau of Alabama: http://centralalabama.bbb.org/

Added note: In my research today, I finally found a different toll-free number to Buckmasters offices, so I called that one thinking that I might be able to circumvent the telemarketing boiler room and go directly to someone who might actually be concerned enough to remove me from their telemarketing list. All I got was more rudeness and more insistence that I must have subscribed, and more refusals to do anything about the continuing harassment.

I worked for Buckmasters for several years in many different capacities. I cold called through their telemarketing department for the majority of my time there, and I can tell you first hand, they are CROOKS.

The management team who runs the joint is laughable at best. Led by a man who should be in jail (he beat an embezzlement charge in Florida recently), they only care about the bottom line. Customers mean absolutely nothing to them. Second in command of the call center is a man who would rather get romantically involved with his female employees than he would run the business. It was well known that one of his employees went on a ride on his boat with him while his wife was giving birth to one of his children. Of course this was a female employee. On several occassions, females would be told they would get special assignments of files to work if they did him favors. Disgusting. Even worse, he fired girls for NOT performing favors for him.

There are two supervisors there, who are the ONLY good people who work in the company. Chris and Greg. They try their hardest to look out for the best interest of the employees and the customers, but it doesn't matter when the bosses are pulling them in different directions.

All too often, when a customer hangs up on a telemarketing associate, the caller and the supervisor will send it through as a sale and give the person the commission. The last 15 minutes of every hour there, they call (or did call it) crunch time. During these times, they will push through sales to any and all contacts they get. You will see a spike in sales go from 1-2 sales per person all the way to 6-8 sales per person.

If you have a choice, stay away from this company. They are horrible to work with and definitely horrible to work for.
