I've been in Iraq now since January of 2007. I've had an account opened and linked to my savings and checking accounts while i'm over here. The thing is the account was NOT opened by me. I got online after several weeks of not being able access the internet, and what do I find? That's right, some new account.

That's not all, that account is NEGATIVE by about 800 dollars. I contact wellsfargo via 1800 number and I get a rude individual on the phone. When I asked why they allowed this, they denied it. They said that I had to go to the branch in which it was opened inorder to see the signature cards. When I explained that i was in Iraq, the lady on the phone said " yeah right, your calling from a Houston phone number." I politely told her that i was using a VOI phone and chose a Houston # because its cheaper for my family to call me (they live in Houston). I requested that the new fraudulent account be closed, and I was told it could not be closed until it was a 0.00 balance.

When I asked who opened the account, they said that I needed to go to the branch in which it was opened. I got frustrated and decided to call back later.

A day or two goes by and WF decided without talking or emailing me, to deduct the negative amount from the fraudulent account from my checking account leaving me overdrawn by $200.00! Not to mention the overdraft fees for having overdraft fees.

Now that the fraudulent account was brought to 0.00, I once again attempted to close the account. Once again I was told I could not, that I needed to go to the nearest branch and close it. I again politely asked if there was a branch in Baghdad. Well that was a NO.

After a couple more days of phone tag (more like an all out phone frenzy on WF), I finally got them to say they could close the account over the phone, but....BUT, in the time it took them to agree to it, the account had become negative AGAIN!! I would love to close all of my accounts with them, but my credit is in ruin due to a divorce and nobody will allow me to open a new one!

Stay AWAY from well fargo! Overdraft fees because you have overdraft fees and all the rest. RUDE, and to think i'm over here protecting their rights to Rip Off Americans!

Contact your AG and call the Houston Police Department. It may help to call the FBI. Get some other people on your side and you can win, especially when the signature card is not yours AND you notified them. Don't waste your time calling them anymore. Good luck.

that if this got leaked to the newspaper...the Chronicle or even a bigger newspaper...You'd have someone from corporate calling you in no time...It's sad to say..but the customer service that I've received at many Wells Fargos in Houston has always been poor...I was so happy to see a Wells Fargo come to my little town so that I wouldn't have to deal with anyone in Houston at all. Go ahead and let one of those relatives tell your story and find some papers that say how long that you have been stationed overseas...believe me...they'll clean up their act in no time....
