My brother flew from Dallas, TX to Jacksonville, NC via Charlotte, NC yesterday (April 5, 2008) on US Air returning from a business trip. The only items in his checked bag were clothing, grooming items, work cell phone and 2 items he purchased at Cabela's ( a turkey call and some other little hunting thing).

He and his co-worker were at the gate in Charlotte well before time for boarding. When they went to the counter, the attendant was rude and informed them that they would not be traveling on that flight because the plane had boarded early and the doors were closed. They could see the plane and informed the lady that the doors were not closed. They informed the lady that they were present and ready to board well in advance of the time located on the tickets. The lady informed them that they could not board and would have to wait for the next flight. Therefore rather than arriving at Albert Ellis Airport in Jacksonville, NC at 3:30, they arrived at 6:00.

The next problem arose when they were informed that my brother's luggage did not arrive. His co-workers luggage did arrive. He did not get upset.

A couple of hours after he got home, Albert Ellis Airport telephoned to state that his luggage had arrived and they would be delivering it that night at some point. They explained that they had ALOT of luggage to deliver and it would be awhile. Again, my brother did not get upset. He thanked them for planning to deliver the luggage and said "no problem". The luggage was delivered late last night.

This morning he opened his suitcase to unpack his belongings. What did he find? He found his clothes, his personal grooming items, the cardboard packet that once contained the turkey call, and the Cabela's bag and receipt that once contained the other item he purchased. He did not find the work cell phone.

Point: These items are now in the hands of a US Air Employee/Thief! The monetary value of the items is very small. The monetary value is not the point. The point is the fact that ITEMS WERE STOLEN from a checked bag that the airline requires to be left unlocked and in their care.

He called US Air immediately and was told that US Air did not cover such items. The person was rude.

Please note that this is the second time my brother has ever flown and the first time his co-worker has ever flown. I dare say they will not fly US Air again if they have a choice.
