The Star Herald is a local news paper and media organization in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. They serve what we call the Panhandle of Nebraska. Over recent years the organization has blocked people on social media for having opposing political views. Grant it if someone is out of control swearing and what not I could see a reason to do it. However, Star Herald has strictly blocked people for having opposing views of an article or for even simply going off topic in a subject.

July 2017 a Federal Court had ruled that public servants cannot block people on Social Media. This doesn't just include Government officials it does include those in the media that provide news as it is a public service. It's very unfair to block people like that on Social Media and it's very wrong. If you're going to be in journalism be ready to take heat from opposing people. I was blocked on Facebook by the Star Herald for being a little of topic about an article a few years ago. It's just flat out discrimination and as it's not covered by Equal Opportunity.

Star Herald provides news and is a public servant therefore they cannot block people on Facebook or Twitter. When news blocks people on social media especially local news. This could also cause a bad situation for people who need to be informed of Emergencies. Yes there are other news agencies in the area, but not all get news at the same time. Star Herald has taken part with other news agencies to help keep residents up to date with emergencies or breaking news. Blocking people on Social Media can hinder a citizen's ability to be alerted timely of a bad situation.
