What a let down. Imagine going to a grocery store 30 minutes before it closes. You go in, walk the isles and pick out all the food you want. Then once you have everything you need, you go to the checkout and hand the cashier your card to pay. The cashier then tells you that you can't checkout because the store is closed. Shut up and take my money am I right? If you weren't going to let me check out why did you let me into the store and let me waste my time going through the aisles and picking out the food I wanted? I was marketed to and sold the spartan dream. I clicked an advertisement for an upcoming race. There were few spaces available but a counter showed about 100 left. I went through the lengthy registration process and when I entered my card details to pay, I got a message saying the time period I selected was full, so I went back and selected the next time period, filled out the registration again and when I went to pay.... time period full. Turns out the race sold out of the last 100 spots between the time I started and finished the registration process. They dont hold your spot when registering until they have your money (which is the last step of a 10 step process). In my opinion, that reflects the poor morals of the company and shows how they negatively affect customers. However, at the time I still had faith in the Spartan dream and I contacted customer service and explained the situation. As if reading from a script the customer service representative told me I couldn't sign up because the race was full. There was a place where you could input an Extended Registration Code but the representative wouldn't grant me a code. No empathy, no alternative solution, no f*cks given. How did we get here? I am willing to pay $130 to run a 5k course and the company treats me like s**t. I had been wanting to participate in a spartan race for a while, it was a fitness goal. When one finally comes to my area this is how I am treated. If you still want to race and you are lucky enough to win the spartan race to register remember that to them you are just a walking wallet. They want your money and they want it on their terms. Don't buy the Spartan Dream, you'll be let down. Do a mud run instead, it's cheaper and they have them all the time.
