My son answered a misleading Craigslist ad for a "carpet cleaner." The interviewer went on to tell him the job was actually a "product representative" demonstrating Kirby vacuum cleaners.  He promised him $1800.00 dollars a month if he did 60 demos a month, which the company would provide contacts of people expecting these demos.  And, was promised big bonuses for selling each vacuum cleaner.  He was also made to sign an "independent contractor" contract.

My son received $200 in cash, mainly for gas, in 30 days of working 12 hour days 6 days a week.  The company DID NOT provide 60 contacts.  Instead they made my son go door to door for hours asking people if they wanted a carpet in one room cleaned for free with 1-2 hours of a sales pitch to buy the vacuum.  My son actually liked the job and sold some vacuums.

My sons immediate "boss" Derek Plummer and his girlfriend Daniella Boles-Breneman kept putting him off on getting money for these sales and his paycheck, telling him the money had somehow disappeared out of the account and another time saying Daniella spilled soda on Derek's wallet.  My son had received a guitar from one of the clients that he did a demo for.  Derek took the guitar and has never returned it.

After 30 days ended and they finally told Dylan he had not completed 60 demos so would not be getting paid at all, he quit.  He completed 32 demos according to them.  He worked all those hours going door to door demonstrating without a paycheck.  These 60 demos they say is required is absolutely unattainable.  They do not provide these "contacts."

When I called Derek Plummer, he told me basically the above.  When I became upset, he texted me that all correspondence would then need to be with Trevor Jackson at Rhino Distributing in Kirkland, WA.  I did talk to Trevor Jackson, who had met my son, and he basically said the above also.

I told Trevor Jackson that my son was developmentally disabled and they took advantage of him making him sign a contract he did not understand.  I told him that also my son did not have the capability to understand they were taking total advantage of him.  He said my son did not "disclose" that he was disabled.  I said I would be filing a claim with the Department of Labor and Industries and pursuing litigation.  He said he would fax over the information to the attorney at the Kirby Corp. in Ohio.

These distribuing companies that sell these Kirby vacuums absolutely take advantage of kids, "dropouts" that are no different than my son, as Trevor Jackson told me, and then do not pay them for selling vacuums at over $3000.00 per vacuum.

I believe the Kirby Corporation in Ohio is just as reprehensible as the Rhino Distributing Co. in Kirkland, WA, along with Trevor Jackson, Derek Plummer, and Daniella Boles-Breneman.
