Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

PublicStorage will take advantage of you when you are most vulnerable, moving.  They confuse you with gibberish while making you sign and initial contracts that contradict themselves and make no sense.  I reserved a unit at the Chicago Western location, changed my mind ahead of time, decided not to use the unit, and they deny me any refund whatsoever. I let them know ahead of time that I was cancelling.

They have on record that I never picked up the lock, or put anything into the unit I reserved, and they are charging me full price.  This all happened before my move-in date, so they didn't even lose any money on the rental.  Now they are going to rent it to someone else, and make double profit.  They will try and badger you into buying extra things, force you to buy insurance, and rip, you, off.  Oh, and don't be fooled by any "specials" they might be running.  They force you to buy a lock, and pay over 20 dollars in an administration fee.  If they wanted to charge me for a few days, I would be ok with that, which would come out to about $9.57.  What a ripoff.

"High pressure sales" and being forced are basically the same thing when you are moving.  Contract, yes I signed.  However, ask yourself, what is the right thing to do here?  Charge me for a service I never used, or give me my money back?

Public Storage has lost 0 dollars on this deal.  In fact, they are making double the profit, because I guarantee you that unit is already rented.  This is moving season.

I was told by the sales associate that they require me to buy their lock.  Same with insurance.  "You are required to buy insurance at this location". I was told the same about the lock at a different location, where by the way they quoted me at over 200 dollars for the same sized space.  Over twice the amount for this space.

The $1.00 first month's rent is a scam that's apparently been working for a long time.  Because you're not told that you will be charged over 80 -100 times that much money in other fees.

Yay, you have a contract.  A glorious contract.  Bully for you.  But, what is the right thing to do?

According to the Economist profits and cashflow are up 30%-140% since August 27th; amongst other Self Storage Places. Point at the contract all you want, but what's right is right.  What's wrong is wrong, and what Public Storage did is wrong.  U-haul didn't charge me a dime to cancel my reservation.  The digital age makes it easy to spread the word.  Thanks and have a great day.

Holding you to the terms of a contract is not a rip-off

“They confuse you with gibberish while making you sign and initial contracts that contradict themselves and make no sense.”

Please post your copy of the contract that contains contradicting statements. Please underline the contradicting statements. I look forward to reading the contract.

“They have on record that I never picked up the lock, or put anything into the unit I reserved, and they are charging me full price.”

The rental fee is nonrefundable because they may have lost the opportunity to rent the unit to another customer during the time it was reserved for you.

“… force you to buy insurance… force you to buy a lock, and pay over 20 dollars in an administration fee”

The administration fee is noted in their Terms and Conditions, and at the bottom of every page on their website (at the web address you provided). No one forced you to sign the contract. It is unlawful to force someone to purchase anything so did you file a police report that you were forced to purchase insurance and a lock? Or is it possible you have confused ‘forced’ with high-pressure sales?
