Automatically sent me a letter, closed my account, stated they had transferred by account to a master card account gave me a new account number, no other card .....

I have had an account with Providian for a number of years. I have paid usually more than my minimum payment each month for all these years. My payment was late only twice and I called and let them know it was in the mail. I mailed most of my payments express but they never seemed to get credited until 10 day+ and by my expressing them they should have recieved payments in no more than two days.

Recently I received a letter stating my account was closed and another company would be servicing it. I received another letter with a new card number from the one I still have and was told another card would not be issued. I have made two payments since this on time to the address and new center they have asked me to send my payment to. The interest rate has risen to 29.9%. I am appauled at this as interested rates are at a low at this time. Out of a 65.00 payment last month, 48.00 went for interest and 17.00 towards the principle. This is highway robbery. Providian is getting richer and the middle class and poorer are getting poorer. It is just not fair.

I requested reason for closing. Received a letter today. Bankruptcy filing reported, time since delinquency is too recent or unknown. My bankruptcy was in 1995 due to an ex-husband and divorce, truly not my fault but I have had to suffer the consequences. My bankruptcy came off my record as a matter of fact this year. My question to Providian on closing my account for this reason is why did you issue me one in the first place as my bankruptcy was on my credit report at the time they opened my account. I have a copy of my credit report and I have never tried to cover up my bankruptcy, yet Providian issued me a card and now closing it for that reason. This doesn't make sense. Not to mentioned now I have even a higher interest rate than I had to begin with.
