Do not use this bank for you finances. We have been a loyal customer way back when they where Ocean National bank. As soon as People's United took them over the real problems began. For a measley 9.34 overdraft they charged 36.00. This is the biggest scam out there. Whether your overdraft is 1.00 or 100.00 they charge you 36.00 overdraft when most banks as a courtesy for being a loyal customer would let it slide. They also charge a atm fee to their customers that most banks don't. The reason why this happens is because they are so d**n slow doing transactios.

"..they charge you 36.00 overdraft when most banks as a courtesy for being a loyal customer would let it slide."

No MOST banks won't, in fact the $36.00 is pretty much average for overdrafts.

Letting this "slide" just encourages more overdrafts. Good for customers who don't overdraft (more revenue for the bank) not so good for you...but fair.

"They also charge a atm fee to their customers that most banks don't..."

IF they indeed charge an ATM fee for using THEIR ATMs then that isn't the norm...however, many banks charge a fee for using other banks ATM's and the other bank will also charge you a fee.

You should go ahead and switch banks now so we can all await your next ROR on how your new bank is Ripping you off.

You must be pretty good at keeping track of your bank account.   I say this because what you're complaining about has been standard practice and almost every bank for years.   You obviously haven't had an overdraft in a while.     For the most part, a $32-$36 overdraft fee is typical.   On the bright side, if you go to your branch, you can often get them to waive the fee.    While most banks do charge this rather high fee, most of them will also waive it if you don't have a history of overdrawing your account.

As far as ATM fees go,  most banks also charge a fee of around $1-$2 if you use another bank's ATM.  This is in addition to what the owner of the ATM charges (usually $2-$3).   When you put the charges together, it makes using any other bank's ATM rather expensive.    You're much better off sticking to your own bank's ATMs, no matter who you bank with.   About the only exception to the ATM fees are online banks and banks that have no branches.
