On May 24 2003 I went to this store's garden department to look at trees.

2 large hand printed signs read '35% off selected trees' and listed 2 that were not included.

As there are seldom any carts in a Lowe's I had to go to the parking lot to find one. Coming back in I asked a w/f cashier if the Maple trees were 35% off. She 'thought so'.

I spent 20+ minutes sorting through trees and finally took 2 Maples which I got from a selection of trees marked by a white sign as $18.77 each.

The n/m/30's register operator charged me the $18.77 price, I told him that there should be 35% off. He said that the 35% was already deducted. I purchased trees and plants here a few times, even from this guy, and I knew that was BS. I told him that I wanted the 35% deducted. He phoned (or pretended to phone) someone and again told me that the 35% was already deducted from the $18.77 price.

I left the trees and went home, got the store's number and called to complain. A Sales Manager named Dennis listened to my complaint and agreed that the 35% should have been deducted!

He wanted to know what he could do to make it right. I told him that he should make sure the register operator knew what he was doing and whoever he supposedly spoke to on the phone should be contacted and told that he was WRONG! I wasn't about to waste more of my time by driving back to the store again for the two trees, why waste another hour of my time!

After thinking about this stupidity I got the name/address of their President (Tillman) from Hoover.com and have written to him about how poorly trained these store people are, I am also sending a copy to the Manager of this location.

I see that there are loads of complaints about Lowes/Lowe's and I was not surprised at all.

I happened to be in the area on Memorial Day and since I had time on my hands I decided to go by this store 'again' as I really needed to get some trees put in while I had the time to do it. I went back to the same display of trees that I wrote about above. No 35% off signs this time but the trees that were 2 days ago $18.77 now had a sign on them for $14.??. I got the attention of an employee and asked exactly what the price of these trees were and explained that I had been really annoyed before when taking trees to the register to be charged the wrong price. Were the trees really going to be $14 and change each if I went to the register with them? He took off the tag with bar code and went up to the register. A few minutes later he came back with the info that the Maple trees were NOT $18, or $14 (which they were marked) but were $9.66 each! So I did purchase 2 of them but as you can see from my experience at Lowe's they have absolutely NO clue as to how to run a store. You can NOT rely on their pricing, it is all over the place, it's a real crap shoot as to what you will be charged at the register as you can't depend on the posted prices.
