Complaint Review: Lenscrafters - Staten Island New York

I've worked for LensCrafters for almost four years and I heard this all the time at the store I was in. Let me set the record straight. You may not like it, but this is what is involved with ophthalmic lenses. First of all the lenses are scratch-RESISTANT(You said it yourself). No lens on the market is scratch-PROOF, ask anyone who is in the business. You will not find a lens manufacturer that has a completely scratch proof lens. The scotch guard lens main purpose is not to resist scratching, it is meant to make the lens easier to clean with the anti-reflective coating. The AR lenses that are made without the scotch guard can be quite tedious to clean and this makes that easier for people who like having the AR coating on their glasses. It does ENHANCE the scratch resistance to a point, just due to the fact that grime and dust that gets on the lens is not going to stick as easily and not be as abrasive, But it still does not protect it altogether. This is something the Eye wear Consultant you worked with should have acknowledged. here are some references if you want more information since obviously you didn't research what you're ranting about. As a glasses wearer for the majority of my life and a Lenscrafters employee, I hate to say it but I have never ONCE had issues with any of my lenses scratching. I currently own over eight pairs of eyeglasses, which all have different types of lenses in them. and I use a wide variety of cleaning products, some of which are approved lens cleaners and some of which are not - and have NEVER had an issue with scratched lenses. So I cannot understand how customer after customer come in every day with lenses that are scratched so badly that you can't even see out of them! What are you doing? Lenses aren't scratch proof which means that you shouldn't leave them face down on a table, shouldn't use harsh cleaning products like windex, antibacterial soap, and they need to be cleaned regularly so that dirt doesn't build up on the lenses. And for christ sake don't clean your glasses with your tshirt! If you need advice on how to clean your lenses just stop into lenscrafters and ask, we'd be happy to give you some tips.

I am sorry to hear that you scratched your lens. But lets clear up a few items here. The amount of money you were paying was to replace both lenses. Even though you did not ask for it this is a common practice so all the measurements match and so both lenses are new. That way you don't have to come back in two months and replace the other lens when you notice that they are scratched. Also scratch resistent means it resists scratches but that you can still scratch them with improper care. What I am confused by though is how you think we should cover the cost of replacing something you damaged. That is not a common practice with anything else why would you think it would be with your glasses.
