My son cancelled his multiple location membership as he didn't need other locations. His multi-location membership ended on 8/12/18. On 8/13/18, we talked to a manager of LA Fitness at Cypress, TX. This manager, whose name was given as Jonathan, told me that my son could sign up a brand new membership for single location without initiation fee and with monthly member fee $24.99. He told me all we needed to do is to go in and pay that first/last month member fee, which would be about $50.00+. Here is the quote of what he texted me -

"[T]his is jonathan with LA|FITNESS I do have some good news for you i'm able to waive the enrollment for your son....all you'll pay is the first and last months today...Give me a call back when you get a chance."

He told me to send my son to the gym that evening and said he had given all details to a staff named "Manny", and had delegated Manny to take care of the payment process.

On 8/13 evening, my son walked in the gym but was not allowed to use the gym and the staff he met was selling him other plans.

On 8/14, I spoke with Johnathan again, who confirmed the plan he offered the day before and told us that my son could go to the gym again in the evening and he would process my son's sign-up by himself.

But what happened next was just so unethical and upsetting. My son, according to what Johnathan suggested, walked in the gym again. The staff told him he had to sign a contract for a year or two. They told my son that there is no way they could process the account according to Jonathan's deal. I finally got to talk to Jonathan and asked him what on earth was going on. All he said was "I am sorry I didn't tell you there is a contract involved. Yes, you need to sign a contract." I questioned why it was different with what he offered, he just said "I didn't tell you". When I questioned him again that whether he was just fishing us to the table and then change the words upon our arrival. He said "OK" then hang up the phone! Unbelievable!

I have been with LA Fitness for many years and I am an every-day-gym-goer to that gym. This was just a big disappointment that the staff were acting with such unprofessional and unethical manner.
