I bought a Welsh gelding out of state from Johnson Performance Horses. He was listed as a well broke, easy going 8 year old. I went out to see him and he was as described. I felt really weird, though, because the barn owner wasn't there. Her daughter showed him to me. I really liked him. I went back to my state, called the barn owner - Kim, and told her I wanted to buy him. I had him vet checked in Oklahoma and got a phone call and emailed vet report saying he was a sound, easy to manage 8 year old Welsh B gelding. I arranged for professional haulers to deliver him to me.

The haulers arrived 2 hours before the earliest delivery window when I wasn't able to get there in time to accept or deny delivery. My barn owner confirmed the coggins the hauler had with the horse and the hauler put him in his stall. I rushed out to the barn to see him and discovered it was a completely different horse than the horse I bought. The face markings were different, the horse was completely freaked out and completely neurotic. I figured "okay, maybe I'm remembering the face markings wrong." I went to get him out of his stall and could barely get a halter on him. When I did get him out I discovered he couldn't lead. He reared on me and tried to yank the lead out of my hand. He immediately broke the crossties I managed to coax him in to. It took 3 of us to get him back into the stall. I thought "okay, maybe this is just pent up energy and residual fear from a long trip with a stranger." He didn't get better over time.

When I tried to ride him after getting him to sort of lead, I discovered he wasn't saddle broke. Luckily, he didn't completely flip out as I mounted him but he definitely had no idea what to do. That confirmed in my mind that this was not the horse I bought. I called the vet out to take a look at him and the vet told me he was a 3 year old! I had to have a new coggins done because they'd sent me the one for the horse I'd actually bought. I've never been able to get in contact with them again. I believe they've used that horse as a bait and switch more times than just me.
