I have written HRS-USA regarding an unknown account on my credit report. The first time I became aware of an apparent error was when I was applying for a mortgage in 2000 and they ran my credit. HRS-USA was listed on the credit report as, "Account charged off/Never late". That seemed kind of contradictory to me. The date opened, 1987. (It just happened to be listed as a charge off in 2000 which means that it is scheduled to continue on record until 2007.)

I had no idea what account this was. I had payed all my bills on time and was sure I did not have an account that was a charge off. After further investigation, I noticed the same account was on my Fiancee's credit report. We had met in 1991 though and this account was listed as being opened in 1987. If this was an account from his past, why would it show up on my credit report? He was not aware of this account either. regardless, if it was his account, it certainly shouldn't show up on my credit history.

I was, of course, concerned that this would prevent me from obtaining a mortgage. However, since this was the only problem on the credit report, and I had attempted to contact HRS but could not come up with an explanation for it, it was dismissed by the lender and the loan went through.

Not thinking anything about it again, two years later, I applied for a line of credit and it again was brought to my attention. I decide to write to HRS in an attempt to determine who they represented and to get a complete account number (only a partial is included on the credit report) to try to get this cleared up. I also wrote to Experian, who I had obtained the credit report from, at the same time. I have not heard anything from anyone. I was not even sure they were at the same address or would have the account history anymore.

Two more years have gone by and I would like to try to refinance to take advantage of lower interest rates but I know this will come up again. I recently, with the help of a lender, was able to locate what I believe is the full/complete account number and will write them again to attempt to clear it from my credit report.

I do not know if this mix-up is the fault of HRS-USA or the credit reporting agencies. I am concerned that if I write them and am able to determine it should be removed, they may not remove it but report it as a new activity on the account and the removal date will become 2011.
