Holland America widely advertised 8 day cruises aboard the Feb.17, 2001 sailing of the Westerdam for $899. This price was for a minimum category cabin with higher prices for higher categories. I booked a minimum category cabin through 11thhourvacations.com and authorized a charge against my credit card of $1812 for two passages for all charges including taxes and port charges.

Holland America assigned us to a minimum category cabin but billed my credit card for $2078. According to 11th hour vacations, the minimum category cabins advertised were sold out.

Although I am pursuing a refund for the overcharge from 11thhourvacations.com, I believe that Holland America has some responsibility for misleading advertising.

There are 13 minimum category cabins, out of a total of about 1000, on the Westerdam. If my minimum cabin was not one of those available at $899, there is a legitimate question as to how many, if any, were available at the advertised price.

Sounds to me like the mistake of the agency, not the cruise line.

They filed the following to the above Rip-Off Report: Their email: [email protected] Their name: kelly lanning Their relationship to the company: Consumer Suggestion Rebuttal: Talk to the agency you booked with. They should have told you what the price was. Sounds like they told you what the price appeared, however, when they went to book with the cruise line, that price was not available. They may have booked you in the minimum cabin available AT THAT TIME. Keep in mind that the cruise lines give a price that is current at the time of printing, not when you call in. Sounds to me like the mistake of the agency, not the cruise line. Did you call Holland America, or write a letter? I'd get their story then call the agency back. I think 11thhourvacations.com is a rip off, not the cruise line. They are the ones that call in your credit card number.
