I was an employee at the Goodwill Superstore in Cookeville Tennessee, I was fired with recieving 5 write-ups in one day. The manager there, Jane Byers is a cheat and a thief. She fires anyone whom she dislikes, for any reason she makes up.

90 out of 100 items that are donated are not even tested, nor even looked at and thrown in a trash compactor for crushing. She digs through the donations and takes donated items that are "good" in her eyes, and she sneaks them out the side door of the building, (the side that faces Jefferson Street Station).

She discounts items to her friends, and relatives, curses at employees and is a downright nasty woman and a poor excuse for one I must add.

Customers report her all the time to Goodwill corporate offices and Goodwill overlooks it.

I wonder if Goodwill ever wonders where all that missing money went??

As for Becky Allen, she is her partner in crime, stealing from the workplace.

The employee turnover there is probably the largest in Cookeville.

Don't donate, the items are either stolen or crushed in a garbage compactor.

i have lived in the cookeville area for 15 years and i have to agree, there were some serious problems with the goodwill back then. i had a friend that worked there, and yes, there was stealing going on. the employees had first dibs and could take whatever they wanted without paying for it.  i know for a fact that one person was taking mccoy items and reselling them to antique stores.  i can honestly say that i don't know the manager personally, but i've NEVER seen her be nice to anyone if and when she is out on the floor.  i also must say that i agree with the person who made the comment about the clothes being mispriced, and i might add that when traveling , i stop at other goodwills and cookeville's is definately overpriced, and half of the items that they put out in the furniture area are broken but still full price.  i recently donated about 8 boxes of stuff and when i opened the trunk a man went to help and then a blonde lady demanded that i needed to hand her the boxes with clothes in it first....i'm sorry, since when is it okay to tell a customer what to do?  at that point, i wanted to shut my trunk and take my stuff elsewhere.   i've noticed some changes in the store, they now have a lady that is so sweet that cleans the bathrooms, and she does an outstanding job!!  where as before , i wouldn't let my children near the bathroom because they were disgusting.  There is a new guy in the back that puts out furniture that is extremely friendly, a short older lady with vibrant red hair..she's awesome, and the lady at the registers with glasses is also extremely pleasant!  so i see where change is taking place, but yes, previously..our goodwill was awful!!  so i have to agree with mary jane to an extent , it doesn't matter what religion you are, how well you enjoy your family, etc etc.  just speak your mind on the store and be done!

Well I'm glad for you Jason. You have no right to tell me what I need to get over, and furthermore, how to live my life. It's great that you are going to an online college, any freak can do that for a minimal fee. Your grammar is really pitiful, and the pressing God issue is a bit much. The topic is Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee, not how you attend college, and how much Jesus loves a person. You seem still confused, and yes it's evident that Jane hired yet, another moron. Put the Bible down, and do your work Jason. Quit using Goodwill's internet connection to post on this website. Another example how Goodwill allows employees to play around on the internet, while getting paid. I spoke the truth about what happened in there, and still continues to happen in that DUMP ! It's been going on for years, and still will, even if you choose to close your eyes to the world and hide behind a Bible. Enjoy making mimimum wage ! I'll send you a dictionary to Goodwill if you promise to use it. Guess they are now offering free sermons with donations there now. This is just a riot ! Tell Jane, aka 'Spike', that Mary says to have fun being rude to customers, and making employees feel like trash as well when she's not loading her car up with donations after hours. After all, that's how she got her home PC.

Goodwill is not a perfect place to work; however, the perfect job does not exist. I have been at goodwill, for a year, and it is not that bad, of a place. I don't know what happened, to you at goodwill. However, it is not right, to make fun, of certain people job's. I do not sort, but I know people who do, and they work really hard. I work in retail, and the people up their work hard too. You need to get over, whatever happened, to you and move, on with your life. I will not respond, to any future rebuttals. I have much more important things, to do with my time. I am not unintelligent. I have been to many places, and I know a lot about this world. I have been at goodwill for nearly a year now, and I just want to say that Jane is a fair person to work for. She has always worked with me, and she works hard her self. Since I have been there I have only seen two people dismissed. Jane tried for over a month to get these two people to work, but they chose not too. I also like to work for Mary who is second in command. She is a very caring person, and she is always willing to help you. As far as theft is concerned, I have never seen Jane take anything. The statements made about her are totally false. Jane works very hard, and if you work and do your job you have nothing to worry about.

Your response to me was again an attack on me. I am not Jane or Becky I was an employee of Goodwill under Jane and Becky's excellent supervision. You stated that I needed to get a life. I have a very wonderful one with 7 wonderful children ranging in age from 32 to 9. I am a Christian very active in my congregation. I do not know how you can explain that you did not make a personal attack on me look at the statement you made concerning an exhaust pipe - get a life go to church get saved and quit trying to find blame in everyone or everything except yourself for your own problems. Personal attack ??????? You are too much !!!!!!!!!!! I have the right to free speech, as well as anyone does. Why should I have to " Be careful of my own actions ?" Sounds like a somewhat, rather lame attempt at a threat, on your part Deborah. In fact, you are probably actually Jane or Becky. Do you log in here every night ???? Don't even try to threaten me by posting that I should have to watch my own actions. You might consider the same advice and apply it toward your own self. I speak, and wrote the truth. You seem to be quite disturbed by this fact. The questions I addressed you with were never answered. Evidently, you don't read so well. Point blank, you are a waste of time. Actually being dismissed from the local corrupt Goodwill, was the best thing that ever happened to me. Jane's nasty tactics actually did teach me something. That game is, "How To Belittle Ohters 101." Evidently someone that hosts a website, found her write-ups from her last job totally funny, or else it wouldn't be on the net. You would be calling the site owner a liar, as you are ASSuming me to be. What basis do you have to tell me that what I have written was false ???? NONE !!!!!!!!! Mary questioned my statement concerning her false statements about her release from Goodwill. The reason I made that statement was due to my observance of Jane and Beckeys behavior during my own employment with Goodwill. It had nothing to due with her personal experience true I did not work there when she did however I did observe management actions during my own employment. Jane is more than fair with all of her employees. She does not stand around and gossip she does not have time to she works very hard she works on the floor she goes to the back very often to observe the employees and answer any questions. Often there were items I personally was unsure of the value she would help me. The electronics I tested were not only plugged in they were checked for efficency. As for recall of merchandise the corporate office would send information they recieved about any such items and they had specific guidelines about safety issues such as frade cords, broken parts or wrong plugs. I did not stand around and gossip with Jane. As for washing the clothing I do not believe that there is a person in the United States that would not personally wash and clothing they bought from Goodwill or a yard sale before wearing it. Mary may have a good point about Goodwill placing a statement that this should be done before you wear the items you purchase from them but I believe most everyone does that anyway. As far as my inspecting candy or chickens you do not know what I inspect and what I inspect is definetly not eatable. I am a strong Christian and do not believe any stealing anything and did not take anything I did not purchase from Goodwill. It was difficult for me to leave Goodwill as I did enjoy my employment there under Jane and Beckeys supervision they are both wonderful people. Sorry again I feel as though Mary has a habit of making false statements most probably while she is angry and really needs to be careful about her own actions

Oh Debbie....... Yes, you state that the donations are inspected for quality. You still deny the fact that the clothes are NOT washed by Goodwill before placing them on the "Floor", for consumer purchase. Consumers aren't informed in ANY way that the clothes couls possibly be soiled. The human eye isn't keen enough to tell if a black item; per say, is soiled. If the "quailty" inspection is so good, why is there a warning in the employee handbook about the dangers of blood-borne pathogens ???? Did you not have any experience before your employment at Goodwill Superstore ??? Sounds like her "gleaming" reference is what got you the newest job, not the experience and knowledge that you obtained during your employment there. You weren't there when the theft by employees was occurring at the time I was employed there. I did not submit this article due to anger of being dismissed. This article was simply placed here to let the general public know what goes on behind closed doors there. I have to correct myself when I sadi she was an ex-cop. She was an Animal Investigator, employed by the Putnam County Humane Society. During her employment there, she engaged in tons of write-ups against a longtime employee of the Cookeville Police Department, who is still currently the city dog catcher. Her incessant, and all too famous write-ups ended up in her termination from that job. That backs up the basis that if she just doesn't plain like you, she writes you up and attempts to get you fired. How can you even say that my statements are false, when you weren't even employed there at the time that I was ???? Why do you have information that should be only professionally discussed with the managers, and not the other staff about a person being fired ??? If you worked as a processor in electronics, housewares, and a sales clerk, you shouldn't know the terms of why a person was terminated. Any good manager wouldn't discuss a private business related matter of an employee's actions, either good or bad with the staff. Sounds like you spent alot of time in Jane's office, running the flapper about the other employees to know this type of information, which is personal ! Theft has occurred there for years, and will continue. Gossip is another main problem there, which Jane thoroughly engages in with all of the staff for a good laugh, obviously you engaged in that. Shame on you both !!!!!! If your employment at Goodwill was so wonderful, why did you leave ??? And why was parting ways with Ms. Byers so "emotional" for you ?? As for being a electronics processor, how can you be so sure that you weren't placing an electrical product on the floor that could perhaps be recalled for safety issues ??? How could you know if the product could have an internal short, and cause injury to another person or persons ? I personally know that the electronics are plugged in and cleaned up, that's all. That takes a whole lot of knowledge to do a task like that. Too many items come through there to thoroughly be checked properly. As for working conditions: Verbally abusive managers, protective gloves were rarely available, and not offered by managers to employees, no dust masks were ever offered, at any time. OSHA will be probing the safety matters at Goodwill for sure. A business with one of the highest employee turn-overs in the history of Cookeville ??? You have to kind of question that. Shelly from Kansas has a good point there. Obviously she sees the light. Have fun inspecting candy, or chicken at one of Cookeville's lousy factories, with your wonderful insight into the inspection field of dirty laundry, theft, and unsafe electronics shouls really be prosperous for you, all thanks to Jane Byers. LOL !!!!!!!! Whatta joke !!!!! I'm going to get the Kleenex, I'm just too emotional, LOL !!

I held employment with Goodwill Industries under Jane Byers supervision. The statement Maryjane made concerning Jane are false. Jane has regulations from Nashville that she has to follow concerning donations and releasing bad employees. All donations are accepted and looked at for quality. If an item is badly damaged or grossly dirty they are disguarded. The only items that were disguarded during my employment were things that were broken and could possibly cause physical damage or soiled by animal or human waste products. I was employed under Jane for more than a year and a half. She was more than fair in all of the issues I had the privilege to observe her address. During the time of my employment there was an employee who had been taking things with out purchasing them. Jane had to observe her actions personally before she could address the issue and dismiss that employee. She does not enjoy having to disipline employees although she does and gives that employee time to improve their actions concerning the area she had to address. I worked as a processor in electronics, housewares and as a sales clerk. I obtained alot of knowledge which allowed me to obtain a position with one of the local factories as an inspector. The day I turned my resignation into Jane was emotionally difficult for me. I hated to leave my employment with her. She is a very understanding - fair and caring person. Thank you for allowing me voice a different type of opinion.

I would like to know how much of the money that Goodwill profits actually goes to the Community. I really don't see them helping many disabled people in my area. I wonder why the CEO's and and preisdents and vice presidents drive nice new company vehicles! they are non-profit. It sounds like maybe someone should be doing a little investigation on Goodwill's funding programs and job placement. How much more money could actually be given to the cause. I know the employees at the retail stores do not make much at all. I would like to see where it is all going. They defeat the purpose of Goodwill the way they treat employees, the good ones anyway. I think that goodwill wants losers to work for them they have no trust in their employees.

LOL !!!!! Becky and Jane spend 80% of their time at Goodwill smoking cigarettes. Or they hole up in Jane Byers' office. You state that you've been there a whole year. That is a rare occurance there. In good time you'll pull the wool from your eyes. Jane used to be a police officer but got fired. Gee, I wonder why she went from a corrupt ex-cop, to the manager of a Goodwill store re-selling used underwear and clothing. If you watch closely, you will see Becky park her fat rump on the old couches out front and smoke her brains out on the timeclock. Ms. Byers makes the store's deposits in the morning. It takes her forever to do this, even though the bank is right down the street. I witnessed "Evil Jane" point her finger and yell horrible things at a man who was there to do community service. And yes she went off like a drunken truck driver. She treats the PSI workers there horribly. You have to be either A: A relative. B: someone in your family works there and got you a job. C: a disabled individual that got a job through Pacesetters Inc. Jane knows better than to mess with the disabled people. You can see by Becky's size that she works really hard in that hot warehouse. They work in stealing donations. If you want to spend the rest of your life sorting through dirty, used underwear that's for you then. BTW: None of the clothing is washed. I hope you read the employee manual well. Take note of the bloodborne pathogens clause in there. Fun job huh ? Yes handling dirty, used underwear can make you ill. even if you are a cashier, Jane will still make you touch the underwear. No wonder 90% of her staff are homosexuals. You Debbie, are in on this conspiracy. Nice attempt to polish Jane and Becky's a*s though. Enjoy your employment at Goodhell Industries of Middle Tennessee.

I do not know why any one would make a statement like this unless they were doing something wrong and got fired for the actions they are accusing Jane and Becky of. I have worked for Goodwill for nearly a year now. I have never seen Jane or Becky take anything from the store. I feel like both of these women are very professional and caring individuals. They have the best interest of the company in their minds and actions. I have seen them fire people for stealing but never had any problems with the way they have addressed myself. I enjoy my employment with Goodwill also with both Jane and Becky.
