I want to apologize for typos, etc., in the original story and this update. As many times as i read the thing, i found typos in the printout i did, after i submitted it, of course. Having limited vision and carpal tunnel in both hands doesn't help one type on the fly well, even if I do know how to touch type. Also, the not so level emotions don't help with grammer in the story telling, or spelling, which i know failry well. Well, now, it's May, 2000, and not much has changed, except i learned a couple of things about this creditor. Not paying the bill for three months got their attention, and they did get more polite on the phone, when i explained that buying a house at my age of (56) and salary (50K/yr) is ridiculous, as a single woman, and that since i can't drive, buying a car is out of the question. After awhile, screwed credit doesn't mean a lot. I asked them what if i died, or did myself in? They got nicer, but not less insistent, as you will see below. To make this shorter, i decided to keep my one phone line on the computer more often than not, so, of course they started calling me at work, and i did my best to avoid them there, although, they did catch me, eventually. However, by that time, my tax refund came in, and i made a partial payment, but they won't make a reasonable deal. They also are determined to get the three months amount. They kept calling after i went thrugh the hardship explanation and the partial payment cleared that was supposed to hold the lid on for a month. Right. They also still lie, as a rep assured me i could reach her for further arrangements. She wouldn't give an extension number, and calling the same number got someone else. I also notice the number is different every time they leave a message. Obviously they have a rotational system, which must be real cheap if each individual doesn't have a real extension number. Figures. I bet these people aren't paid much, or told how valuable customers are when they have complaints. Some actually listen, but nothing materially changes. Ergo, problem same remians. When i tried to get the same rep back, two days later, the next rep i got claimed not anyone knew that name (jamie, with a deep carolina accent), including the so-called supervisor i asked for, and that there were 300 employees in the facility. Right. Do they need that many to keep all the lies straight, or to runaround all the complaints? You NEVER get the same person twice, so maybe there really is 300 poor unfortunate people working there. I've even asked some of them how their consciences can stand all the lying, and why did they pick this company to work for. They get offended on that one. Wonder why ... jobs must be scarce in that part of Georgia. What i learned is that Credit Card Services is Fleet Credit Card Servicees. I found that out when I answered one of their calls, and we went through the phone check process routine, again. I finally discovered why the mailed checks to Fleet clear, but the phone checks do not. One of my sets of checks had come with a "41" in the bank/routing number instead of a "40", and that did it. Somehow, between me and them, the wrong number crept in, after i had done some phone checks with them. Now, the fault is all mine, according to them, of course. My checking account bank (OCTFCU) knew who i was for mailed checks, but computers doing the electronic thing didn't. In other words, i didn't bounce any checks, as Fleet claimed, and they almost had me believing that, except i couldn't find evidence of that. True or not is the same to Fleet, once they think one has bounced. That's the second thing i learned, or, should i say confirmed. After some 'conversation', the checking numbers got changed, and the danged thing went through in a day. Guess what my account statement showed for the electronic transfer? FLEET, not Credit Credit Svcs! Right. While i was on a roll with an actually nice person (at Fleet?), i asked for a street address for the corporate HQ. No soap. I've done that three times, now, at least. I only got a p.o. box in Columbus, Ga. Well, BOA isn't regulated in Georgia, and BOA owns Fleet. Nice. I also asked for the name of the CEO or CFO, and no soap, either. They have a list of magic phrase names you can send letters to, as in "cease and desist" for phone calls, "customer Service" (for getting the cycle date changed, etc.). Which brings me to the topic of cycle dates. I didn't know that is what it is called, which is the date the bill is DUE, not sent. THEY determined the when the cycle date is, without asking me. I wouldn't be suprised if they looked up when i was paid and made it so i would always be late. I recall more than one conversation (unprovabe, of course) where i asked for the due date to be changed to something after the tenth of the month, since i am a government employee. I am paid twice a month, and the 25th check goes for rent, period. All the other bills come out of the 10th of the month check. Seems simple to me, but no diff to them. I've explained that till i'm blue, but they claim i have to call this other number, instead of the current person on the horn doing it on that computer. I have to call an 866 number to change the cycle date, or do whatever else they call Customer Service. I'm tired of calling different numbers, always talking to different people, when they are too damned cheap to set it up right. I told them that. No diff. They do what they want to do, and that's all they do. Will i call the number? Maybe when i quit cussing, which doesn't do any good, either. I am beginning to understand why people shoot themselves over stuff like this. It isn't the money, it's the way they drive you crazy. So, the poor slob who doesn't know all the tricks, have time or money to do all the hoops, and complaint sites on the net show it's a real b***h to get any bank to strainghten up its act, EVEN AFTER LITIGATION IS SUCCESSFUL, class action or not. After what i've read,i don't think i'll live long enough to get anywhere with these thieves. Please pray for all the problems these companies cause, because it will take an act of God to get anywhere with these people, who LIKE being theives. It's part of their power trip, i think. IS THERE AN HONEST BANK? I DON'T THINK SO. And, oh, yeah, my cchecking account credit union (OCTFCU) won't consolidate my credit because of the Fleet crap, and THEY won't listen to why that is. EXPERION, EQUIFAX, AND TRANSUNION REIGNS. FOREVER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
