There is something fishy going on in Garland.

85% of Texas has deregulated, and you can choose any provider you want for electricity.

EXCEPT GARLAND!!!

Garland has not allowed competition to come in, and they are very rude at the utility company.  First, my neighbors say that they have the highest utility rate in the nation because they have NOT deregulated.. Second, they make you file as "rental" property if you have anyone living in your home that is NOT the owner... They will charge you an additional deposit if you dont get a Texas Drivers License, even if Texas is not your perm residence like your a second class citizen if you are form another state.

It's a nightmare trying to deal with them, too. They are rude. Will not let you speak to a supervisor, and will just hang up on you when you ask to speak to a supervisor.

I was told at leat three times now that no supervisors are on duty. I asked if there was anyone there that can help me with an issue but told no supervisors are available to speak with me. They have no supervision and can say what ever thay want to you on the phone, even hang up on you, and no one can do anything about it.

Be prepared if you are ever late paying your utility bill. I had a past due amount, received a recorded message/reminder from them stating that if a certain amount was not paid by Nov 9th I would be subject to disconnect. But today, Nov 6th all power/water was turned off. I called and was told that that recorded call was a courtesy but the date given wasnt a guaranteed shut off date, but was more of a at the latest date. They have the option to disconnect service at any time for any amount overdue and do so without obligation to inform/alert/warn customers prior and/or the cut off date has been changed.

Because I had another disconnect within one year (I lost my job in Feb and have been having a hard time, they will not even try to work with customers, it is pay or else) because of this being 2nd one, I now have a $100 extra charge added to my bill. What is the worse part for me, I have been doing some part time work that would have covered what I owed and I was assured I would get the check before the 9th. I got the check today, the 6th but now instead of being able to pay my utilities before the quoted disconnect due date they gave me and have some money left over for other bills, I have to use $100 more of it for a charge I wouldnt have had if they had honored the Nov 9th date they quoted me.

They will not waive any fees, no sympathy, and in order to get power restored asap, I had to use their over the phone payment service, adding another $3.75 to use it!

I have lived in many areas of Dallas, lived in Richardson and lived in Royse City. I have to say without any doubt, Garland is the worse place I have ever had the misfortune to live, worse mistake was buying a house in Garland. There is nothing good that I can say about living in Garland. I would strongly advise anyone considering moving to Garland, Tx, to find housing anywhere else because eventually, you too will regret it.

I moved to Garland from Mesquite 3 months ago, and my bills have all been over $500. And my AC does not even work. My water is is always over $100 alone and my bills say we have used 22,400 gallons of water on all 3 bills we got so far. And there is no way we have used that much water each month. And my electric bill has been over $400 each month and my AC does not work. I never had my water and electric bills that high when I lived in Mesquite. So yes they are ripping us off!!!!!!!

There are NUMEROUS reports on ROR about almost every other power provider in Texas being the most unfair and having the highest rates.

I suppose somebody must be right.

What BIG 'issue" did you need to discuss with a supervisor?

What is the rate/KWH that you pay in beautiful downtown Garland?

Did your neighbors research all the other rates in the nation before telling you Garland was the highest in the nation?

Are they higher than say, Hawaii at 29 cents/kwh?

Or California with it's tiered rates that take huge jumps as you use more power?

Just wondering if you even have a clue what you're talking about.

First, my neighbors say that they have the highest utility rate in the nation because they have NOT deregulated..
And my in-laws, sister, next door neighbor says the moon is made of blue cheese.

What is the rate your neighbors are paying?

Second, they make you file as "rental" property if you have anyone living in your home that is NOT the owner
- Sounds reasonable.  I know you are not saying that if any people in ADDITION to the owner are living there because if that was the case then every single house could be considered a rental.  So I am sure you mean that if the owner does not live in the house.

They will charge you an additional deposit if you dont get a Texas Drivers License, even if Texas is not your perm residence like your a second class citizen if you are form another state.
- Because if you don't have a TX license you are probably more likely to "skip out".  My guess is that  more than a few "Permanent Residents" burned them when they decided to move out and go back to what ever State they really lived in.
