Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
In the early 1980s Mr Carleton Sheets and his wife Sue waltzed into my Hot Tub Store in the Boca Raton Mall (Backyard Showcase) looking to have a first class Hot Tub installation done for their ranch home in the Reserve Area of Western Delray Beach. They wanted a waterfall with a landscape pond, a masonry surround wall, a screen house and a decked inground hot tub with a gas heater plus a concrete patio. They wanted a deluxe installation.

They wanted us to draw up a plan for them immediately. They balked when I told them that we required an up-front $100.00 fee for the drawing and then one of us would go out to their house and draw up the plans. They finally paid the fee when they realized we were not going to budge and the plans were drawn and an estimate was given to them for a total of $22,000.00 for the entire installation.

Carlton and Sue balked at the cost and wanted us to do the entire job for about $8,000.00. They told us that since they were Realtors they would be showing the installation to everyone and we would get work from the job, We were not stupid enough to fall for that line!

They finally settled on a basic installation with a 2' perimeter deck for about $6,500.00. That is all they could really afford at the time. We installed the tub and got paid and it was working properly when it was inspected and signed off by the building department.

One day we got a call from Carleton that the pump wasn't working. We sent

our serviceman out to the house to repair it and found that the impeller of the pump had been jammed with a small child's sock and had wrecked the pump motor. We replaced the motor and billed them $350.00 for the repair.

Mr. Sheets sent me a check in the amount of $10.00 TEN DOLLARS with a note explaining that he did not feel that the breakdown was his fault and that it should be covered by warranty and that he was going to be generous with us and give us ten dollars to cover our cost for the service call.

I returned the check to him with a note and told him if he did not pay the balance due I would put an Mechanic's Lien on his house. It was a trick on his part - in Florida, if a mechanic accepts a partial payment as payment in full then the partial payment prevails. Florida has some funny laws that are slanted in the favor of the crooks and deadbeats, so be careful if you do any business in Florida!

And Carleton, just wanted to let you know that I still have your note and postmarked envelope and a copy of your ten dollar check. Every time I see your infomercial on TV I take it out and look it over again as it is one of my treasures. I just feel sorry for the suckers who buy your program.

Don't try to sue me for libel or slander. I'll just bring the paperwork to Court!
