I have been buying stuff from Bookman's on W. Ina Road since 1998. I probably have spent several thousands of dollars with them. Once, if a person has CDs, books, or video material, they would get a fair shake from them if they needed to sell or swap it. Within the last year, however, Bookman's has been offering less and less for this used material, no matter how mint it may be. They cite the excuse having already overstocked same.
Recently, thanks to chronic unemployment and no income, I took in some unique old time radio CDs which cost me over $60 from the manufacturer (Radio Twilight Zone dramas hosted by Stacy Keach, only released last month), and a stack of 6 mint conditioned computer textbooks covering A+, Windows 2000 Professional, Networking Fundamentals, and more related computer books, all mint shape, recent stuff.
Value I paid for these were over $300. Now, I was flat broke, and nearly out of gas while parked in the front of their store, on a Saturday, January 4th. All I was offered was a lousy $16.95 for this material (and I happen to know this stuff will sell like hotcakes with a Bookman markup of 500 per cent!). I protested, to no avail, and had to accept it, or walk home. I wrote the store manager complaining how I felt I was taken advantage of, hoping that in the interest of fair play, decency, and customer relations, he would have paid a little more to ease the pain and to be fair, but no, he would not answer my letters or speak to me on the telephone.
I just want everyone to think twice before selling or swapping material with Bookman unless you like being cheated, because they have really turned into some petty, greedy thieves. I know we are having hard economic times, but this is really very stupid. As I become more prosperous, they will never have my business again, and I just want the public to know with what kind of greed now in play with Bookman's.
