Best Buy Extended warranty is a joke and misrepresented at time of sale. Utica Michigan
I purchased the warranty for both a Nintendo DS and an Ipod, both of which were for my 11 year old. At the time of purchase, when they asked if I wanted the warranty, I replied that it was probably a good idea since they were for an 11 year old.
No one told me that it was not a REPLACEMENT warranty, but one for extended service in the event that the product is mechanically faulty. Since I have used my warranty at Toys R Us in the past (which is a true REPLACEMENT warranty) I didn't think to ask if the Best Buy warranty was different.
As it goes, the Ipod locked up. When I took it back to Best Buy, they told me that it had been tampered with and refused to honor the warranty. At the top of the Ipod there was a small, perfectly formed bump in the cover near the screen. They said it looked like a screwdriver had been used to pry it open.
First of all, why would I try to fix it myself if I have a warranty? Second, it was like that when we got it. I just thought it was decorative (dorky, I know) and it was too perfectly formed to have been done by a screwdriver.
As for the DS, it was dropped. When I called the 800 number the woman actually told me to go the Toys R Us next time because their warranties cover accidents!

up until September of 2008 it was a replacement service plan, but too many people would intentionally do something to thier ds to get a new one or a new color, so now they fix it or exchange it for a refurbished one. it had never covered dropping or accidents though, and it seems like you didn't bother to know what it DID cover until you wanted to use it. as for the ipod how are they supposed to know that it wasnt tampered with? you can return the protection plans for a prorated amount.
