I feel compelled to put this note out about AppStar Financial. If you are a business, you need to read this! As a small company trying to build our business, working with AppStar Financial was a total nightmare. Be very careful!

  • There is virtually no customer service; no one ever answers the phone, returns a message or responds to an email.
  • A local representative contacted us for a meeting and presented the company in a good light.
  • In hindsight, we were foolish to believe this representative and did not read the 18 pages of fine print.
  • I would strongly recommend that if someone from AppStar Financial approaches you that you do not sign anything until you have read the 18 pages of fine print (yes…all 18 pages).
  • Due to a miscommunication we had our account frozen, which prevented us from doing business.
  • Note, once you sign the contract, it is impossible to get out of it and there is a $495 termination fee.
  • Be aware that it is very difficult to track the HCA payments from AppStar Financial as the trace# and company ID changes almost every month. It took hours of phone calls and our time to track what AppStar was taking from our bank account every month after we no longer used them as a merchant service company.
  • In desperation, we contacted the BBB serving San Diego and Imperial Counties and after an additional 6 months of stress and frustration we were finally able to terminate the contract; however we still had to pay the $495 fee.
  • It had been 7 months since we had used this company at all, but they continued to take money out each month, plus an additional annual fee. By the time we were able to terminate our contract, we actually paid more than the $495 termination fee.  
  • Had I known the BBB would really be no help and it would take so long, I would have found a way to pay the $495 six months earlier.  
  • AppStar Financial continues to have an A+ rating through the BBB. This is very misleading. We typically trust BBB ratings, but now will investigate further and not just rely on the BBB rating for a company. We take responsibility for not doing our due diligence.
  • When there are 18 pages of fine print, there is a reason! Read everything, search beyond the BBB rating and ask questions until you feel comfortable you want to work with this company.
  • There are lots of other merchant service companies out there that actually have a staffed customer support line and honest representatives. Thankfully we are working with a great company now and I want to put the horror of working with AppStar Financial behind us. We hope sharing our story will be helpful for other businesses in the future.
