Dear Shane Hawkins,

I was disappointed that you were slated to be out of town during the window that you asked me to call you! I was very pleased to hear from you in response to my interest in your company. I looked at your website immediately after reading your ad and thought that the promotions manager position would be a perfect fit for my skillset. I have been the Public Affairs Director since the position was created! I have worked with several of your clients in my line of work, writing and airing public service announcements and conducting long-form interviews to the Major Market Standard. The primary responsibility for which I was hired is event coordination. In this job, I have been held responsible to execute flawlessly a high-energy promotion where I am required to keep a 110% standard of decorum, professionalism, and client relations and demonstrate that on camera for my company and the client, all in a two hour block. I began as part of the Promotions Crew at a time when we were completely unknown, and through guerilla marketing (where the first rule is always ask for forgiveness), we built a strong brand that raised the bar of promotions for friends and competitors alike! Most recently I have been trained as a professional news reporter, which utilizes my skills of observation to their greatest extent.

Today I was to interview with Apex Promotions. I was very proud to be invited to interview with your company! After I finished filling out the requested paperwork, I went to my car to get my resume for your receptionist, whose name I will withhold, with whom I had scheduled the interview in your absence. I took the time to observe my surroundings. I saw several framed "articles" about the young people who comprise your company, which excited me even more greatly about the possibility of becoming a part of a burgeoning, multi-cultural company and helping build another brand from scratch, upholding the professionalism I have always given to the companies to whom I have committed my loyalty, and representing the clients to whom my company has contracted its services.

I took digital pictures of the wall of articles and of the door with the APEXPROMOTIONS.BIZ logo. I did this for several reasons, two most importantly. I intended to show my interviewer exactly what I have been trained to do as a Promotions Professional. I also wanted to show my mother where I went for my first interview for full time work since I have received the training to manage and execute my job flawlessly. She was equally proud of me.

My supposed interviewer did not introduce himself. Instead, he came out and asked the room, "Can I help you?" No one answered. "Who was taking pictures?" I said I was. I don't quite recall how the conversation went at that point. I was informed that no pictures were allowed, so I apologized and deleted them voluntarily. The interviewer made a comment about the company's policy against journalists. My proudest achievement so far is also the first line on my resume, News Reporter, but due to my need for health insurance, after more than two years at a job where the part-time employees uphold full time responsibilities with full time professionalism, with little opportunity for advancement without relocating, I am no longer employed as a reporter, nor am I with the Promotions Crew anymore.

I was asked to leave your business without question, without interviewing, by someone who did not even introduce himself. I doubt he would have shaken my hand if I had offered it. He said, "There's the door, you know where it is." I did not see a sign requesting no photography, nor was I made aware of the policy beforehand.

I apologize if at any time I have come off as impolite, it was definitely not my intention. I also wish to ask your forgiveness where I should have asked permission; unfortunately that has led me to understand that my standard of professionalism perhaps differs from your company's. There were a few things that stuck out in my first impression of your company. The first thing I noticed was a magazine on the table that said ORGASM Q&A. I find that quite indecent! I think that a company whose mission is to promote products for the public good and safety of children would hold a higher standard. That magazine is sold in grocery stores with a black plastic wrapper now! Also, every time I went to your website, I had the immediate urge to go back to the previous page QUICKLY. There is LOUD, OBNOXIOUS music on your website that also causes my old, slow computer to bog down even more than normal. And when I arrived at your storefront, I was treated VERY UNPROFESSIONALLY.

As a promotions professional, I am now incensed to recommend against your company to every other promotions professional and public affairs client I know. As a news reporter, I am now suspicious of the practices of your company that is suspicious of anyone with an amateur photography habit. I am also inclined to publish this letter to craigslist and the Better Business Bureau.

I hope this is not the impression you intended to leave, Mr. Hawkins.

You Did Not Seem Like You Were Here For An Interview

Drew, Sorry that you had to leave so soon. Just think about it..if you would've asked to take pictures of the sign on our door or the manager profiles on the wall we would have let you..NO problem. You filled out the application then went outside and started taking pictures. Then you came inside and took a picture of me also. The other job seekers that were in the lobby were kinda freaked out too. The situation would've been a lot better if you told us what you were doing before proceeding to take pictures of everything. I know its a little upsetting that you didn't get a chance to work with us because your background seems like an awesome fit for the positions that are available with our company! Just some advice for the next interview you go on..ASK FIRST!! Good luck to you!
