The fact is that a debt never goes away until it is paid. Now, after a certain amount of time you are under no legal obligation to pay it anymore. Because of this the older it gets the less of a chance companies will come after you. The ones that do are the Junk Debt Buyers who hope to take advantage of people who do not know this..if anything that is the actual Rip Off. Also, a negative item can not be reported on your credit report after 7 years, so if it is older than that. This is the reason it is not on there. As to what you can do. Send them a certified letter stating that the debt is beyond the Statute of Limitations and Credit Reporting Period. That they are to no longer contact you about this debt. Do not sign the letter just type your name. Be sure to get a Return Receipt(Green Card) for proof that they received it. Now, not to say that they will not sell the debt to another company that tries the same thing. If they do just send another letter to the new company.
