Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I have never written a review of a company or service before, but felt that I had to say something here because I was appalled by these business practices.

I was charged $64.95 on my credit card. It took me a while to figure out what "Active Network" was, but when I did I was confused, as I have never signed up for anything but half-marathon races. I thought it was a reliable company--connecting people with road races and other healthy events and goods, and that there had been a mistake. Still confused, I searched "64.95" in my gmail, and saw that they charged me for a yearly membership. The email that stated I was charged was made to look like an advertisement. The subject like said something trivial: "Are you ready for a year of savings?", and in order to see the charge I had to scroll down to the bottom of the email. If the subject and appearance of the open email look like an advertisement or spam, why would someone scroll to the bottom to see if there is billing information? They wouldn't--hence the dispicable practices this company is using to trick consumers into unknowingly paying a membership fee.

I called the number to get this cancelled and complain, and one of their first phone options was regarding "a membership charge of 64.95 on your credit card," or something to that affect. I was so angry! Obviously they have this option set up because they know their business practices prey on consumers, and they get a large number of people calling. The woman (she was actually very nice, for having such a bad job), told me they get these calls all the time.

I have never been taken advantage of like this by a company before (that I know of, right?), and I just hope this isn't the future of business that we have to look forward to. How many people are unknowingly paying 65 bucks a year to keep this scam open and received nothing in return? The stupid part is that I run so many races, I would have probably bought the membership if they were upfront about it. If you sell something that is desirable then people will buy it, you don't have to trick people.

I am going to send emails to all of the race companies that use active.com, and let them know about my experience. If you "active advantage" the websites all say "scam", "freud", etc. So hopefully these reputable companies won't be using this vendor too much longer.
