Hello - Today I received a paper collection notice from 1&1 Internet, Inc. stating that if I did not pay for an annual renewal of domain names for customer #K27108803 in the amount of $79.92 within 7 days or an additional $18.95 would be charged and my account turned over to collections.

My documentation on this matter indicates that when I was initially notified via email that the auto-renewal had failed on #K27108803, (2) return emails were issued stating the account should be closed as I did not wish to renew these domain names. A review of my inbox indicates no return response to my requests have been received; at least by me.

Upon receiving todays notice, I attempted to contact the organization at approximately 5.00 pm on 9/15/2011. The hours of verbal contact with 1&1 are 6am 5pm from my geographic location.  I am troubled with organizational practices that "default" to automatic renewal and make it highly difficult for the average consumer to switch this auto field OFF. This practice is intentionally in place to create exactly the situation I write to you about today. The notice is dated 9/12/2011 and today is the 15th. That leaves me only 3 days to make a public objection.

Additionally when I called today, there is a menu option specifically for collection matters. Again indicating, at least to me, that I am being forced to make a purchase I do not want to make and so perhaps are many others. Although I notified 1&1 twice that I did not want to renew these domain names, I am being threatened with collections if I do not pay $79.92 no later than 9/20/11.

I consider the demand letter I received from 1&1 Internet, Inc. to be a form of intentional extortion.
