I booked a rental car with Nu Car Rentals through Hotwire.com. I had a "Confirmation Number."

First thing to know is Nu Car Rentals is NOT located with the rest of the car rental companies at the San Diego Airport. It states that they are off site, which is where ALL of the other car rental agencies are.

In San Diego you board a transit bus for 10 minutes that takes you to the other side of the airport where ALL of the car rental agencies are located..... BUT NOT Nu Car Rental. They are located somewhere else. So now you are taking an Uber. They DO NOT make this clear on the Hotwire information OR with Nu Car Rentals website infromation. What they do say is "Off Site", but all of the rental car agencies in San Diego are considered off site, but are located a short complimentary shuttle ride away, and all of them are located in the same building.

Nu Car Rentals is NOT located with all of the other compaines. So Nu Car Rentals is NOT convienient to begin with.

When I can't find Nu Car Rentals place of business at the Rental Car facility at San Diego airport, I call Nu Car Rentals to find out that they don't have any cars. So Hotwire or Nu Car Rentals,  or both, are incompetant. I don't know which company of the two "dropped the ball" but neither are professional.

I will definately not use Nu Car Rentals in the future, and most likely will stay away from Hotwire as well. Both seem a little to sketchy just to save $10.

Off-airport means the rental car facility is NOT affiliated with the airport. Most airports have the rental cars somewhere other than the terminals. That doesn't make those facilities off-airport. They are still on airport premises and they pay a lot more in taxes and fees to be there. And most of the time, off-brand car rental places cater to people who don't know any better. They tend to have poor service, beat-up cars, and love to charge bogus damage fees and such. And who the hell uses Hotwire in 2023? That site is basically a scam. Just go to the rental car company's website and book your rental there.
