In December 2003 we booked a cruise with VIP and they were to get back to us with details. In January, 2004 I received an email confirmation of our flight on March 6th, at 6 a.m. from Toronto and returning March 14th.

The email indicated that the cruise details would follow.

I phoned the travel agent (Centro travel - used by VIP) the next day and was told the cruise would be a Western Caribbean cruise with 4 stops: Jamiaca, Grand Caymen, Belize and Roatan and that confirmation would follow.

Despite repeated calls and emails to Centro Travel and VIP we heard nothing until the 24th of February. At that time VIP customer (non)service finally phoned back and seemed surprised that we had no tickets. They said not to worry, that our tickets would arrive by March 4th, 2 days before we were to leave.

Since we were to leave early on the 6th and arrive back late on the 14th (as indicated in our email air travel itinerary) we made arrangements to stay in a hotel by the airport both the night before and the night after our trip.

We did get our tickets on March 4th (again, two days before we were to leave) and they were for a different departure day and different cruise. The tickets we received were for Sunday departure and Sunday return and the cruise had different destinations.

We contacted the hotel and because we used Air miles we couldn't change our accomodations. So we went to Toronto the Friday night and added a Saturday stay at additional cost. We lost the following Saturday stay (no refund) because of the change in ariving back in Toronto on Sunday.

I did talk to VIP customer service while we were in Toronto on March 6th and the girl assured me they would cover our extra hotel costs.

Since our return I have repeatedly called and emailed VIP with no repsonse. From reading other reports it seems this is how they operate.

Not their problem says Vacations in Paradise

Vacations in Paradise have responded to my complaint by saying it's not their problem - I'm to deal with the travel agents that VIP picked and used for the trip. So, I paid VIP to arrange the trip, I dealt with VIP for the trip - but they will take no responsibility, nor will their "CUSTOMER SERVICE" area deal with it for me. Nice.
