My wife purchased a 2011 Chevy Equinox from Van Chevrolet. She purchased an extended warranty which included oil changes. I took my car to Van for an oil change. The service advisor informed me that I needed the transmission fluid flushed, whatever that means. I informed him that I had read the owner's manual and no special maintenance was recommended at 30,000 miles.

He said that Chevrolet had revised their maintenance recommendations. He whips out a booklet opened to the page he wants me to see. I know this scam. I flip the booklet over to reveal that it was from Van Chevrolet not Genewral Motors. I instructed him to just change the oil. 2 hrs. latter my can is done or so they say. I drove the car home, about 5 miles. I pulled the dipstick. The oil was black. All my car had received was sunshine maintenance.

Any trust of Van Chevrolet is gone. I can no longer return to them for service. Will they actually install the correct oil? Will they actually change the oil filter?  I want to receive the oil changes that my wife purchased. Now I can't. They probably did this on purpose.

I guess you don't get what you paid for at Van unless you are amenable to being ripped off.

I commend you on being a SMART CONSUMER!  Spread the word about what they did.  Check with the warranty company to see if you can get it honored elsewhere.  As for the transmission flush...NO, NO, NO!  Regular transmission service is getting a complete fluid drain out and replacing the filter.  If you want to shorten the life of your transmission, then get a "FLUSH"!

The filter in the transmission holds the debris which a transmission normally produces as it wears.  The purpose of that filter is to trap that debris so it does not get lodged in the transmission internal areas causing increased wear.  During a "FLUSH", that debris is stirred up and gets lodged in the transmission which is EXACTLY WHAT YOU DO NOT WANT.  Those whorecommend a flush need  to generate "flush revenue" to pay for the flushing machine!  Again, DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES GET A TRANSMISSION FLUSH.

I would highly suggest you start looking for an INDEPENDENT MECHANIC.  An independent mechanic is somebody who owns their own shop and is probably one of the mechanics as well.  You will get better service, honest service and quality service.  As you have seen, this dealership tried to DECEIVE you.  FRAUD and DECEPTION is rampant in the Sleazy American Car Business.  Another LIE they may try to tell you is:  "You MUST get your non-warranty work done at our dealership, otherwise your factory warranty will be void."  This is nothing but a BOLD FACED LIE.  As per the Magnuson-Moss Act you can have any non-warranty work done anywhere WITHOUT voiding the factory warranty.

Any questions, feel free to ask!
