Complaint Review: UPS - Nationwide

I always buy protein in Thailand, where I live, 1 box 2.3 kg around 2900,- Baht ( US$ 90,-). Since lack of supply, I bought 2 boxes on Ebay, from UK company for a total around Pounds 140,-( Baht 6700) very similar considering freight charges. I was made to believe they would send it to me by Royal Mail, which I really like, since the service is grant and duties and taxes to be paid upon arrival are minor or even zero, opposed to shipments through courier companies, which are a total rip off. You can imagine I was very perturbed getting a phone call from UPS. I believe the seller after checking the quotes from Royal Mail decided to use UPS instead, since they charge probably less than half. UPS asked me to give them my email for them to send me documents. I gave the email address, but without asking anything further I told them to send shipment back and I hang up the phone. I knew that this was going to be a shitty experience, again. I send an email to the seller explaining what was going on and he was very understanding. Within 15 minutes I had my money reimbursed. Two hours later I received the following email from UPS.

 Dear sir

 Now shipment hold on customs for inspec , so you want to parcel import ,please see list below and feedback

 1. Please sent to full your name (frist,mid,surname) by today

 2. sent to copy passport or take a photos passport back to me at that time

 3. please sent to about detail of goods or translate thai in a package (you can sent to   picture of goods referable)

4. you have to register to be importer/exporter with thai customs first,you can process via any customs office which convenience (Can you contact thai customs office branch near to you , telephone number 1164 )

(should be mr.miss.mrs./ name surname)

4.1 registered name should be mr./miss./mrs. Name surname

5.after that we can submit import entry via customs system,once we got the reply from system then we can process customs clearance.for this process,take time around 1-2 day.we'll also inform the delivery date and total expenses to you in the meantime

-         Clearance charges 1,284.00 Baht

-         Terminal charges 321.00 Baht

-         Document charges 321.00 Baht

-         Customs fee 200.00 Bath

-         Customs permit 53.50 Baht

-         Warehouse fee 300.00 Baht per day until the shpt can release from customs

-         Duty and tax will be inform once customs assess. We need to check with FDA first whether Import is allowed or not.

-         Amendment fee 1321.00 Baht.

* So they want me to go to the airport, which would cost me 3 hours in time.

* They want me to wait patiently to wait for import license.

* I have to submit all kinds of documents.

* After getting the license, if at all, I still have to pay taxes and duties on top of the Baht 3900,- which is around US$ 120,-, which they charge me as per their email (which could be much higher since they charge Baht 300,- a day for warehouse storage. Can you imagine such an amount for a small box? I can rent a room for that money, need be).

*I estimate, from previous experience the duties and taxes would be around Baht 2500,-. So I am looking at Baht 6500,-- 8000,- on top of the Baht 6700,- I have paid for my order/purchase. The two boxes would end up costing me around Baht 14000,- opposed to Baht 5800,- (incl. shipping) if I order in Thailand. Does that make any sense? I think UPS have forgotten to charge for :

Transparency fees

Occupational hazardous fees

Optimality charges

Due diligence fees

Extra ordinary fees

Extra curricular charges

Thinking outside the box tax

BEWARE FOR UPS! AS FAR AS RIP OFF’S are concerned, THEY TAKE THE CAKE/CROWN, FOR NOW.
