I attended the University of Phoenix mainly because I had been layed off and while looking for employment ran across an advertisment which stated that because of the recession it was possible to go back to school and receive a zero cost/low cost degree if you are a parent who was layed off. I went to the site and signed up to receive information and they called and hounded me ceaslessly for months until I decided that it would be in my best interest to obtain a degree. I was told that they handled the student loan paperwork I had to do some "student loan" counciling and the rest they'd handle. I was told congratulations and that I'd be able to start earning my degree right away, and I did.
After graduation, I started receiving information in the mail regarding my student loans totalling over 34,000 (which is neither 0 nor low cost)! I tried calling my financial aid officer to which I never heard anything back from. I tried to get a job in the field that my "degree" was in and they basically laughed at me, and so here I am, back at my original job that I had prior to layoff and 34K poorer and I am outraged that there is nothing that can be done!
