I received a postcard saying I would receive two tickets on Southwest Airlines anywhere on its system plus two weekend nights at a Marriott Hotel.  All I had to do was attend a 90 minute sales program.  The postcard mentioned Expedia and SWA so I assumed there was some partnership involved.  I called the number on the card to inquire further and the polite young man on the other end said it was true- the company he represented was a travel services organization that preferred to spend it's advertising budget on travel for potential customers rather than conventional methods.

My wife and I attended the presentation and were told by the speaker that, for $9000 up front,  we would receive steep discounts on travel.  We declined and were given a "travel voucher" to complete and return in order to receive our free travel.  I did not read it until we arrived home.  The back of the voucher had about 1000 words of conditions and restrictions and required that we send money to some travel agency in Florida in order to pay certain fees.

That seemed like a bad plan, so I ended up in touch with one Branden Vidal, ostensibly the VP in charge of public relations for United Reservation Services.  He admitted they did not disclose travel terms and conditions because it would significantly reduce the number of people who would attend the presentations.  That said, he proudly advised he was an honorable ex-Marine and his company intended to honor it's obligations to me.  In the end, after several e-mail echanges, he still wanted me to send money to some distant travel agent and accept very restrictive terms and conditions. I told him I had no desire to have restrictions for vacation travel and suggested he simply figure out  the cheapest tickets he could buy from California to Maine and send a check for that amount.  Radio silence ensued, but not before he called me a half-wit in one e-mail exchange.

It's hard to say if there is any real value here but I was not about to send a check to strangers and hope for the best.

P.S. Brandon said there was never any guarantee travel would be on SWA.  These guys are not honest.

Fist of all, my last name is Vidal.  Second, I NEVER called ANYONE a "half-wit" over the phone or especially in an email. I would ask that you provide the proof... post the email in which I supposedly called you a "half-wit"... YOU CAN'T BECAUSE I WOULD NEVER SAY THAT!!  As for admitting to you that we withold anything from people is completely false.  YOU signed a form saying that YOU understood the terms and conditions of the voucher you received.  YOU SIGNED IT, not me... and we certainly didn't force you to take the vouchers.  You are NOT a member of ours, you're nothing more than an individual who THOUGHT he heard FREE and ran with it the entire time... you even stated that you wanted US to PAY for you FLIGHT???? SEND YOU A CHECK??? ?That's not how things work and we never claimed that your flight would be FREE... you signed a document stating that you understood you were responsible for Fees and Taxes, and that's all you were asked to pay.

There was no "radio silence"... I told you we were going to PAY for your flight, no sir, we will not.  That is NOT what you were told, I've listened to the recorded conversation you had with the representative whom set the appointment for you in the first place and they made that abundantly clear, sir.  I can play the recording for you if you want.  Don't you think that we've covered all our bases and crossed all our T's?  Yes, I AM a US Marine, there is NO SUCH thing as a Former Marine, or maybe you don't know that??  Don't make comments about that which you have no idea or experience.  If you need help with your voucher, I can help, but I will not stand for you making negative remarks about me and attmepting to mark my name.  What I told you was that the appointment setters don't know many details about the terms and conditions because their ONLY job is to set the appointment so that people can come and form their own opinions.  We are NOT held responsible for your actions with the voucher once you READ and SIGN the release form.  We don't do that to be tricky or slick, IT'S TO PROTECT YOU AND ME!!  Nothing new about that.

Truth be told, we do all we can to help Members and Non Members, alike, every day, every hour.  You, sir, need to call me directly if you have something to say about me or to me.  I am here to talk if you need my assistance.

Kindly,

Brandon Vidal
