I received a collection notice for $29.90 for internet services supposedly rendered by "Juno, a United Online company". The phone # included was just a recording telling me to mail money into the PO box included in the letter.

I have never had an account with Juno or any other United Online affiliate. I looked up juno's customer service number from their website. After being shuffled around for 45min on their customer service line (888-839-5866), I was told that someone opened up an account in my name five months ago and there was nothing I could do but write to the PO box in the notice.

They refused to connect me to anyone at the "united online collections division", and told me that it was impossible for me to contact anyone at that division via phone or email.

Now I will send them a letter via snail mail, but will have absolutely no proof that they received the communication without paying for signature confirmation. Ugh...

with the federal trade commission, the attorney general for your state as well.  I had a bogus collection that they couldn't prove yet still refused to remove with National Credit Solutions.  After filing a complaint with the AG's office, I received a letter 3 weeks later that NCS agreed to remove this from my credit reports (all 3), and to delete my information from their database.  Don't let em mess with you, and don't contact them for anything!
