Trafalgar Turns Into Traf-vulgar Tour We didn't receive what they promised through their advertising. Headquarters in Bermuda for tax reasons .....

My wife and I took our 3 kids on a tour of the UK with Trafalgar Tours. Per their advertising brochures all hotel rooms were to be First Class, meals were to be First Class etc. We decided this is what we wanted and paid them First Class rates based on their advertising for the tour.

What turned out in reality in almost 40- 50% of the cases during the tour were anything but First Class. Many of the hotels were what I would term tourist class or less, a couple hotels could only be described as almost flop houses. Holes in walls - some plugged with toilet tissue, stained bedding and carpeting, furniture even the Salvation Army would reject, dirty, no shower, noxious smelling rooms, etc.

I have some photos if interested.

In one case a TV mounted on a wall stand was almost falling off the wall - very dangerous - told the tour guide and he didn't want any part of the situation with the hotel. He said this wasn't his problem. A new room was provided after discussion with the desk.

There were many situations on the tour like these and I would estimate 70% of the folks on the tour had the same negative comments and experiences. We felt there was definetely fraudulent advertising and we will probably take it up with better business and our state's consumer advocate dept.

We talked to others and they told us they heard similar negative things about Trafalgar and many recommended Globus instead. Don't take Insight as they were bought by Trafalgar we were told.

I wrote and sent some photos to Trafalgar customer service in Switzerland over a month ago and haven't heard BOO!! this is what we expected.

Sorry to hear about your UK trip, however, last summer my family and I took a 14 day First Class Tour of Italy with Trafalgar and we found it to be an excellent value. The company exceeded all of our expectations including hotels, meals, excursions and bus travel across Italy. The hotels ranged from a Three Star with a great location in Rome;a beautiful family owned hotel in Sorrento with a roof top sitting are from which we could watch the sun set behond Capri and a full moon rise over Mount Vesuvius; a 500 year old monastery in Assisi to a 5 diamond resort with balcony suites on the edge of Lake Maggiore. The hotel provided meals were good and many of the dining rooms were unique. Nothing gourmet but filling and tasty. The "local" ight special diers were great. Every side trip promised was delivered as described in brochures. Even the extra cost side excursions were reasonably priced. (If you are a first time visitor worth the cost - if you kow your away aroud you do't eed to pay the small premiums for a private tour). To be honest, because the price was so reasonable, I expected to be underwhelmed by the experience and just the opposite occurred. Rome, Sorrento, Capri, Venice, Lake District, Florence and Assisi were fantastic. Mark, our tour guide was a wealth of information. No one in the group of about 50 people had any complaints. Even the weather was perfect - not a minute lost to rain. I have traveled extensively and this was a great trip -extremely well planned and executed. Total professionalism and a great value. I would not hesitate a minute to book another European tour with Trafalgar.
