Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I started recieving notifications on my credit monitoring services that there were changes to my credit history. Upon investigating, I found that this company had repeatedly reported me (sometimes once a week, sometimes every three days) as having a derogatory account with them for 55.00. This company reported the same derogatory account each time and in doing so, lowered my credit score by 2 points.

I phoned the company to see find out what this account was and was told it was for monies owed to BMG Music Services from February 2006. I told them I never ordered anything from BMG Music Services so I put the account in dispute. I also contacted TransUnion on the same day I contacted this agency in order to dispute the account with them. This collection agency recorded the dispute but continued to report the account as derogatory.

Upon further investigation, I found that my husband took out two BMG Music Service memberships, one in his name and one in mine, of which I had absolutely no previous knowledge. I had him contact this collection agency to let them know this was his debt and not mine and he would be responsible for the debt. They noted his statement and continued to report the derogatory account on my credit report. I phoned them to talk to them about it and they told me that because we are married, that I was legally responsible for his debt, regardless of whether or not I had knowledge of the account so I paid it on July 22nd. On July 26th, this company reports it yet again on my credit history as a derogatory account, even though I had paid it. I phoned them back again on July 30th and was told that they would now stop reporting but the damage has already been done. I do not understand how ANY of this is legal and welcome any input regarding this matter. To say at this point that I am livid,  is an under-statement and I have now decided to write my dissertation on the unethical practices of collection agencies and how they skew consumer protection laws to work in their favor (or to be more accuate, how they break consumer laws for profit).
