Asked new car salesman why price of grand am increased by $3000 from msrp on the sheet he was writing on. he told me due to upgrade of v6 engine and automatic transmission. the finance guy told me it was because of the finance charges.

The reason why it increased was due to dealer added equipment and services. Located on the supplemental consumer dealer ticket that was removed by the salesman prior to the test drive and then "lost". I was never shown a window sticker of any type. My wife had handled most of the transaction prior to me coming in and signing the contract of which they claimed once I signed there was no going back. I could not back out. My wife was anxious to get the car and even she had inquired about the price increase and was told about upgrade in the cars option package.

Actually it was due to hand waxing, paint shield, window engraving, rust proof, interior shield, sound sheild and my favorite: Dealer Profit: $1500. Had I seen this "ticket" sticker thing I would have NEVER purchased the car. They are real slick.

Another dealer was participating in the Pontiac Smart Value Package Deal. I could have gotten the same car with a better stereo, power roof, chrome wheels for Less than what I paid for at Terry Shaver Pontiac. I signed the form and now I am out of luck.

Of course I demanded to see the sticker that was removed - over and over. Of course I explained to my wife and daughter this was not the dealer for us. I knew it was not the place I wanted to buy from. They drew up papers for my wife to sign; they informed her they did not need my signature because of her credit rating. She was suspicious. She was not earning a paycheck at that time to pay for the vehicle. But could sign for a loan. We walked out together, no new car - and my daughter was crying. Then 'they' called again. . . To make a long story short, wife and daughter sat in the dealers for three hours waiting for me after work. they gave us the keys for a couple days to try the car - we now have the car. we are all very unhappy about the mistreatment from that particular dealer. of course they are in it to make a profit! I know that. We asked repeatedly for the truth and did not receive it. My wife and daughter was determined - and just not too bright. My bad. I paid for the "extras" for my wife and daughter. They realized after speaking to a different pontiac dealer that all dealers do not operate the same as t. shaver and perhaps, that is why there is no t. shaver selling pontiacs, mercedes benz or even bicycles here anymore. And I will not ever for a moment let my wife forget that she was duped, lied to and could have used the extra money on something more fun than dealer profit. We all have to learn sometime, but I have to pay ALL THE TIME. SO BE CAREFUL AMERICA. CHOOSE YOUR NEW CAR DEALERS WISELY. DON'T LET YOUR WIFE AND DAUGHTER GO TO A DEALERSHIP ALONE. THERE WAS MORE EMOTION IN THAT PURCHASE THAN HONESTY OR INTELLIGENCE. Learn by my mistake. Talk to THREE TO FOUR DIFFERNT DEALERS - GO TO ANOTHER STATE FOR INFO. WHATEVER. Demand to See ALL PAPERWORK. GET ALL THE INFORMATION. And have a nice day. Like my wife says, "it's only money."

#5Consumer Suggestion

Rudy, let me start by saying I'm not exactly a fan of addendum stickers, but certain dealers do them and there's nothing you can do about that aside from not rewarding them with your business if you don't feel comfortable. Let's see if I understand this- your wife went in to the dealership and made a deal which turns out to be a VERY bad deal for you. You then go in and sign up your end of the paperwork. At what point did you realize you'd paid too much for the car? When you were going over the contract if you were getting different stories, why didn't you ask to see a copy of the window sticker then? If they couldn't produce the window sticker, why not ask them to print out the option packages on a website like Edmunds.com? You got two very different stories from two different people about the price of the car, but never asked for any justification. You hadn't signed any paperwork, and regardless of what your wife had done or agreed to before you arrived to sign, YOU still had the option to refuse to sign, thereby voiding any paperwork with her name and signature and just YOUR name and NO signature. If you don't like what you're hearing and not getting a proper answer to your questions, refuse to sign and walk out. Having said all that, let's address your next issue. I would heartily agree with you that $1500.00 plus the markup to MSRP, plus all the 'options' you didn't want would be price gouging. But there's a second side to that- a dealership has the right to sell a product for any price you're willing to pay, provided they haven't offered that SAME vehicle for a lower price in some kind of print advertising listing the stock or vin number. The dealer is under no obligation to stop you from making a bad decision regarding what you're willing to pay. But you said in your second posting 'Why do you have to TAKE more than you're willing to GIVE' or something along that line. Well, that's why you go into business in the first place- to make money. To make a profit. If the dealership gave away more than it took, wouldn't it go out of business? If all dealers gave more than they took, they'd ALL go out of business. Dealers are in business to make a fair profit. Sounds to me as though they took advantage of you. I would suggest talking to an attorney as it sounds to me like a lot of things were not handled properly with disclosure on your finance contract. Quite likely you have a case against the dealership, but you'll have to pursue it aggressively. But to suggest a dealer, or any business for that matter, should 'give' more than they 'take' is just plain asinine. You walk into McDonalds and they charge you for a hamburger- they're not a charity. Same thing goes for just about any business you could frequent.

The above mentioned "car dealership" is gone from highland, IN. Thank you GOD. It has been gone for a year now. We can now rest peacefully until the next crooked car dealer moves in. And we have them all in Highland. Is it just that much harder to GIVE more than take? It seems this dealer was all about the taking. Take take take. What a shame. What a pitiful person you must be. Like a sicko. You may have more money than some but it's because you fed off of unsuspecting victims. Ewww. Maggot money. Enjoy your life. We, in Highland hope you never return.
