Target

N/A
Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
My wife who is German went to a target store at the end of July 2007. She was sollicited to open a Redcard account, thinking it was like a preferred or rewards card like at the supermarkets. She also thought she got a 10% discount and that the amount was charged to the bank card. This was in Phoenix AZ and we moved to Idaho at the beginning of September, and we had our mail forwarded for 6 months. We never received anything from Target, not even one letter or phone call until the end of March 2008 when they told us we owed them over 300 dollars. I paid the money, because these people are such scam artists, adding ridiculous amounts of money to the original 70 dollars every few weeks.

When you go to the Target Website you will find nothing about Customer Service. They are scammers. If we were not contacted it is because this unethical corporate giant waits months to contact you so that they can accumulate unheard of late fees and interest. They called us for the first time at the end of March. The lady from Jamaica that called me said that in fact they had only sent one letter (in September) and that this letter just returned to them on April 1, 2007. Absolutely amazing, I have never been late on a payment in my life and I felt like such a fool being ripped off by con artists. I explained that my wife was German, that we had never received anything from them...they just kind of laughed and basically said...too bad for you...its not our problem and we don't care if you ever shop Target again. This company probably makes more money from their credit card scams than from their retail store. They have not desire to help customers and if you do a search on their website for customer service or for customer relations you come up with a blank, because the words cannot be found by their own search tool on their website.

Please never never open any type of account with this unethical company. I can't imagine how many people they have ripped off. What kind of company only sends one letter and then never calls until your orignal purchase has increased with fees by 500%? Please shop anywhere but target. I think I will now cancel my Sears card as well, since these companies are now linked. I used to think of Sears as an ethical company, but if they are associated with this group of theives, Iwonder.

I have the same experience. I used autopay function from Target Redcard website. but the payment returned to me without any notice. And Target add an extra late payment fee to me at my next payment. I did call Target service. they refused to tell me what my account number is. And they said the only way to verify the account number is i have to read the account number to them. After i read it, they started to say you entered the wrong number. HOW CAN I ENTER THE WRONG NUMBER "TWICE"????? And the most ridiculous thing is on the Redcard website, i cannot even see my own account number.... I couldn't see what i entered, and they just told you that you entered wrong.. Who will believe this statement from Target RedCard service department????? There's no service in Target redcard. does anyone know anywhere to complain this kind of issue?!! I dont want this unethical company, such as target, to rip off anyone anymore!!! James Los Angeles, CA USA

Did you not read the credit card application before signing it authorizing Target National Bank to open an account? You the consumer are responsbile for knowing what is going on and what you are signing up for! Geez! You opened an account, rec'd a 10% discount on your first purchase. Did you not pay attention to the messages on the payment device?

I have had essentially the same experience with this company, over in Houston. Same result, a perfect credit history almost ruined within days until Target finally called me, to notify me that yes, my credit was going to be ruined until I paid the charges plus interest. Please understand that I always pay off my debts as soon as I can. The fraud here is that when I paid for the merchandise at Target I swiped my debit card, and went thru all the motions of paying by debit. What Target didn't bother to inform me was that it was of no use, they were going to charge my Target red card anyway. When I held the phone conversation with the Target customer support rep (conveniently during my work day), she admitted that Target had been receiving many of these complaints from consumers, because they too so foolishly thought it would be possible to simply pay without having to go thru the Target card. Long story short I just got it over with and paid off the exact balance they wanted, over the phone, giving them my bank account and routing number, and demanded they close my account completely...or so I thought. Just recently Target has somehow found me at my new address and hit me for a bill of $1.32. For what, I have no idea, but the automated Target customer help at least says my account is closed. Why did I take this card in the first place? It was sold to me by a seemingly sweet cashier lady who had a thick Asian accent. What I basically understood was that this was a discount card that let me both take 10% off my purchases and have a portion of the purchase donated to a k-12 school. Sounded like a fantastic deal so I signed up. Target's operation of this promotion comes across as very misleading to me. What can the small customer really do against the corporate behemoth except accept the loss of a few hundred dollars.

Sears is now the parent company of KMart, not Target. When you open a credit account at Target, you are given the Card Issuer's Policy Agreement packet along with your temporary card. If she failed to read and understand that information, that is on her. If that is the case, she should ask for your help in understanding such things. It is not Target's responsibility to make sure that you are aware of your debt beyond sending out monthly statements to that effect. They do not run the postal service that delivers your mail. There are financial laws that state that you are responsible for the money you owe to your debtors, even if your bill gets lost in the mail. After all, it was your responsibility to keep up with where that charge ended up, be it a Target card or your bank card.

It's Target's fault that his wife did not fully understand what she was signing up for. And that's Target's fault not hers.

What made your wife think that this was a "rewards program" and the amount would be charged to a different card, when she clearly did not produce said different card at the time of her Target purchase? Also if she is "German" and not proficient in the English language as you claim, why is she signing up for credit card offers that she does not understand?

Can your wife read?

She had to fill out her information on machine to get the card and it clearly states on a few of the screens that this is an application for credit it also prints out a temporary card at the time of purchase and at the bottom of the receipt it clearly states target visa or target card beside the total showing that is where the payment was deducted from. Did you not wonder why you never got charged on your original card or do you not keep track of these things?

I understand where you're coming from, but at the same time, if the mail is getting sent back to Target, they can't exactly send you a bill. I would try to contact them and ask for a settlement. They probably won't eliminate all the fees, so they'll probably get a little something out of this other than the principle, but it's not worth ruining your credit for 300.00.

I'm sorry to hear of your dilemma, but I found a place on the Target website you may be interested in. If you go to the Target website, scroll all the way down to the bottom. On the right hand side, there is a line that says "contact us". Click on that. It brings up a page with some phone numbers on it. One of them specifically says RedCards, and gives a phone number. Hope it helps!!!
