However, rehabilitation doesn't only exist in the prisons, they also apply to the county jail system. People can be housed for up to a year in county jails on sentences, even longer if the state approves it to run concurrent with other sentences. So "Yes" there is a term of rehabilitation inside the county jail system. Otherwise there wouldn't be substance abuse classes, anger management classes, mental health classes, family psychology classes and the lists go on and on. To say we sued him to justify calling him and the Maricopa County Sheriff's office is corrupt and his Deputies are criminals, makes you people idiots criminal sypathizers!!! I did live in Phoenix for 2 years and am a fan of Sheriff Joe. This is the way a jail should be ran. A criminal should have no rights, or a least less than their victims. Joe is a politician and is good at it. Sheriff's are elected officials and when they run for elections they tell the population they will be tough on crime. Sure its propaganda and yes he is unpopular with his own staff. That doesn't mean he hasn't done some good though. He has been tough, he has saved the taxpayer a lot of money and has treated criminals the way they ought to be treated. Criminals are victimizers usually without much of a soul. If a sheriff makes them pay for their meals, wear pink underwear then so be it. These people should not be rewarded for their criminal behavior but in fact punished. True County jail is mostly for folks that are "Innocent until Proven guilty" but as I know from working in one, most of the folks incarcerated there are doing a terrible job convincing anyone they are trully innocent. I agree that Departments across the country could do more towards re-eduction, such as GED programs, college credit, even potentially sealing minor criminal records to assist one with introduction to society without reprisal from employers. I feel a lof of them could be given an opportunity to go to "Mandatory" drug treatment programs, but if fail go to jail or prison. But all these are good in theory. But one thing I see is so many avoid going to these programs even offered in their jail. Meth and other drugs have skyrocketed since he has been office? Well of course, it has gone up in all parts of the country, its a drug that is cheap to make, anyone can make it even in mobile labs. Its skyrocketing isn't anything attributed to Joe Arpio, its just simple mathimatics!
