Ryder Truck Rental is a ripoff; faulty equipment pre-check. Dalton, Georgia
We reserved a 10' Ryder truck for a small move in August 01. Fortunately we wound up getting a 15' for the same price. The truck was accepted and we left to pack.
The problem began immediately after we left the lot, but wasn't recognized as a problem until we were well on the way down the interstate.
Have you ever tried to blindly change lanes?! The drivers mirror would not stay in any place for more than 20 seconds. The passenger mirror shook so violently, it was useless. Not being able to use my x-ray vision to see through the wall behind me, I had to hold the mirror still, watch traffic and be extra careful changing lanes.
I wound up cramming a coke can between the driver-side mirror and body to semi-stabilize it. The passenger mirror was a lost cause. We did make it to our destination without any accident due to my cautious driving and lane changing. I did report it to the Ryder company without any satisfaction. Essentially, they told me I could have called repair service. Duh?
If the vehicle in question was inspected properly, this wouldn't have been a problem. Further, I went back to the original rental place to find the orignal paperwork and they couldn't find it. The original was left with the destination party.
I think I'd rather pay more than get a bum rental and wind up dead or mangled because some jerk was too lazy to check out a rental thoroughly.
