This is a copy of the letter I sent to the company and it was returned (not at this address). This letter is to complain about service I recently received from your company, Roto Rooter.

My husband called Roto Rooter on 9/8/2008 to get a quote for someone to snake the main line to our manufactured home. We waited over five hours for a service person to show up. I had to explain my problem to him several times because he did not seem to understand. I showed him where the main line was and he insisted on snaking the outlet instead. This would do no good as this goes directly to the baffles and would not clear the pipe. I was quite frustrated and was made to feel that I could not get another company to do this as it was emergent. Also, your tech used a 1 inch blade in a 2 inch pipe to try to clear it.

Not only were we not informed there would be an exorbitant service call fee but to have a service person snake a main line pipe would cost almost $400 and that there would be no guarantee that it would work afterwards. Not even when the tech used inadequate equipment.

I wrote a check for the service and within 24 hours the problem was unresolved. I still have an issue with the main bathroom and cannot use it at all. I cannot afford your service nor can I afford to pay a more reasonable company to fix a job your company screwed up. I have researched other plumbing companies and the average to snake a main line WITH a guarantee is under $200 taxes included. I feel that your company has preyed upon my family in a time of distress and have put a stop payment on the check.

So far, your representatives call my home on average of 5 times per day and have already sent me to collections. I am filing a complaint against you and your company with the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General for predatory actions.

I did file a complaint against them with the BBB and now they gave a threatening response on the BBB about legal action because I placed a stop payment on a check for substandard services. The letter I mailed had the exact same address, yet it was returned to me - unopened. Anyone who looks this particular franchise will see several complaints in the last year stating roughly the same as I.

Their ad in the phone book is deceiving as it indicates that they have a local office in my area, yet they do not and they must drive 2 hours from Tacoma. I called another LOCAL company who very nicely gave me a quote over the phone. Upon hearing my story, the representative from the other company stated that Roto-Rooter was charging me excessive fees and no one good in the immediate area charges more than $200 tax included for the service I needed.
