I first signed up for Roomster as a way to find a roommate in a new city. The website was not very effective. When I finally received a message about a potential roommate, I had to pay a $5.95 charge for 3 days worth of access. I provided my credit card information under the assumption that after 3 days, I would no longer have access to my messages and I would receive no more charges.

The "message" turned out to be a generic plug from an individual that had viewed my account and was not even a personal message. To make matters worse, three days later a $29.95 charge appeared on my bank account. Apparently Roomster automatically renewed my account without informing me of the pending charge.

This resulted in a loss of money that I desperately needed and an overdraft of my checking account. (Something that has not happened in a LONG time).

I attempted to contact Roomster, but there is no contact info on their website. No phone number, fax number, email address or physical address. The information I have found, has been aggregated from various other complaints filed by other victims. I emailed them through the 'help desk' on their website, but have yet to receive a response. I called a number that I found for a Celia Chen: 917-825-1635. Warning if you call, the message will be transcribed so she doesn't even listen to it. This seems sketchy as well.

Stay away from this website...there are better ways to find a roommate that don't involve scams and a loss of money. I am in the process of filing complaints and will be taking the case to small claims court. STAY AWAY!!!!!!!
