Beware when shopping at Rockler Woodworking and Hardware,which has many retail outlets and a huge mailorder business.

They suffer from the same malady that Home Depot does,(i.e.-inconsiderate,unknowledgeable staff)

I recently purchased a cordless naill gun from the Orange County Rockler which required about an hour drive each way.Whenn i got home,I tried out the nailer and it kept running because it was leaking air. A call to Rockler of course got the reply,"Just bring it in" they were not exactly down the block.

Upon arrival I showed the defective nailer to the clerk and demonstrated how it the compression cycle would not stop,you could hear air leaking from the exhaust,which,as any half-assed carpenter would know,it should only blow out air during the FIRING cycle.

The disinterested employee then informed me that this was "Normal Bleed Off" and that there was nothing wrong with the tool.To this I politely but firmly stated that I owned other coventional nailers that did not do this.

The said employee then went and got the head Norm Abrams wannabee who inspected the nailer and listened to air leaking and explained again that this was "Normal Bleed Off" meanwhile the battery in the nailer was going dead because of the constant running. I eplained to the second guy that I didn't think it was true and he said that it was the case with these nailers.The first guy says"Are we done here?" and then taps his fist on the counter like a vegas card dealer and they both go off to help other customers.

I just kept standing there and I wouldn't leave.I didn't get angry,I just wouldn't leave.Finally,the head guy jerks the nailer away in disgust,runs over and gets another new one and shoves it at me saying"It's just going to do the same thing!"

And then goes about his business all indignant and pissed off.

I get the new nailer home,and lo and behold,NO AIR LEAKS!!

I'm happy with the new nailer but not with the way these guys attempted to handle me and get me out of the store.F*** Rocler hardware!!!

My comment is the same as I've read here for Home Depot.Rockler seems to be hiring failed,unknowledgeable contractors as sales persons.Before these guys came up with their excuse for the tool not working correctly they intimated that perhaps the problem was user misuse/damage.I mean,GET YOUR EFFING EXCUSES STRAIGHT at least!!

I am a custom furniture maker and I have used tools of this type for many years.This isn't an issue of me needing my ego boosted,it's a matter of hiring TRAINED KNOWLEDGEABLE EMPLOYEES who are willing to help.I think because I didn't fit the sterotype of a redfaced, burly, beer bellied contractor they figured I didn't know anything.

I could report numerous instances of misinformed Rockler employees giving unqualified advice.

P.S.-Now they've opened a store by my house, but I will not be patronizing it.

My rebuttal is that although this complaint happened over six years ago, there was not an update to how Rockler has improved over the past few years, and it came up on a "Google" search as the second place to go.

Also the tool mentioned was not a GREAT tool, and service of the tool was deficult to perform in the store enviorment.  Also I understand they have "dropped" the tool line.

The Pasadena store was mentioned, and my experiance has been a 12 on a 10 scale with regard to "product knowledge and customer service."

Rockler is very concerned about the above and as a customer over the past four years.... I have had only good to say about them.
