I WAS CONTACTED BY RIDDLE AND ASSOCIATES  ON APRIL 18TH 2008 VIA MAIL STATING I OWED $7265.69 TO ASSET ACCEPTANCE. I WAS TOLD IF I DIDN'T START MAKING PAYMENTS ON ACCOUNT I WOULD BE TAKEN TO COURT, AND WAGES GARNISHED. I STARTED PAYING BECAUSE THEY PROVIDED INFO ON A BILL THAT I KNEW I OWED. I HAVE PAID THEM $ 2000 AS OF TODAY'S DATE. I RECENTLY FOUND OUT THAT THIS COMPANY IS A SCAM. THEY HAVE CONTACTED ME ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS BY PHONE WANTING TO KNOW WHERE MY PAYMENT IS IF THEY HAVEN'T RECEIVED IT BY MID MONTH. I RECEIVED MY LAST CALL ON 7/15 DEMANDING MY PAYMENT FOR THE MONTH OF JULY. I WAS TOLD IF I PAID THE ACCOUNT IN FULL THEY WOULD OFFER ME A DISCOUNT. I HAVE RECENTLY RESEARCHED FURTHER AND FOUND THAT I HAVE BEEN PAYING 2 DIFFERENT COMPANIES FOR THE SAME BILL. I AM WANTING TO HAVE ALL MONIES THAT HAVE BEEN PAID TO RIDDLE AND ASSOCIATES RETURNED TO ME IN THE TOTAL OF $2000. I HAVE MONEY ORDERS AND BANK STATEMENTS TO SHOW PAYMENTS THAT HAVE BEEN MADE TO RIDDLE AND ASSOCIATES. I  AM NO LONGER SENDING PAYMENTS TO RIDDLE AND ASSOCIATES CONSIDERING I AM PAYING THE ORIGINAL CREDITOR ALREADY. I NEED HELP RECOUPING MY MONIES THAT I HAVE PAID TO THIS SCAM COMPANY.

They are scammer, because I also have a similar story. What I did a was called the original creditor and confirmed the amount of owed. They tried to charge me an extra $100 to cover attorney fees which is illegal unless they took my to court for it (which they didn't). Plus when you call them, the automated system said "Thanks for calling The Law Firm of Woodlaw." Well I GOOGLE and called the Law Firm of Woodlaw and I was told that they do not have a collection department and that isn't the type of law that they deal with. These people are scammers. If the Original Creditor is telling you that this is the tenth complaint that they have received today and their telling people don't pay Riddle and Associates, a red flag need to go up.

I'm curious what is causing you to claim this was a scam.  First off, Riddle and Associates is a legitimate attorney office and collection agency. Many people that end up in collections cry "Scam! Scam!" when it's a legitimate attempt to collect a debt. From what I read of your report, it sounds like you believe this is a scam because of the fact that you were paying a) Riddle and Associates, and b) the original creditor. This does not = a scam.  You can still pay the original place you incurred the debt from, but until that creditor either receives the balance IN FULL (including any interest, collections fees, attorneys fees, etc that the collection agency has added), OR calls the collection agency and tells them to recall the account, you will continue to owe the debt to this collection agency.
You can make payments regularly, each and every month, but the original creditor and/or collection agency is not REQUIRED to accept anything except payment in full.

You can try contacting Asset Acceptance and asking to work out arrangements with them, and request that they cancel the collection account from Riddle and Associates. They may agree, they may not. If they don't agree, you may want to deal with Riddle and Associates directly to see about working something out with them. Ask if they'll offer you any type of settlement. If you can, come up with the money to pay it off, even if it's a low-interest loan through your bank, but before you do, request that they remove the account from your credit report once it's paid in full. Ask for a "paid in full letter" after your account is paid off. They CAN garnish your wages - this is not an empty threat, unfortunately.  This is clearly something you want to avoid if at all possible, which is why I suggested a loan if possible.  These are things you can TRY, but there's no guarantee any of it will work. Dealing with collection agencies is by no means fun, but unfortunately it is necessary for companies to outsource their past-due accounts to collection agencies in order for them to recoup monies that people default on or refuse to pay. Trust me, most companies would rather not have to send people to collections, either, because they end up giving up around 25% of the amount they send to collections.

good luck getting your money back from a scam you fell for. WHO is it you think is going to return your money?    The SCAMMERS who got you to fall for their scam?  They did it illegally...what makes you think they'll have a change of heart and just give you the money back?    Not gonna happen.
