Proline Boats Dont buy Proline!! 3 months in the shop and wont honor simple warranty items Homosassa Florida.

IN SHORT, WE SENT OUR BOAT INTO A PROLINE DEALER AT PROLINES REQUEST TO HAVE OUR ON GOING WARRANTY PROBLEMS REPAIRED. THE BOAT HAS SAT FOR THREE MONTHS AND NO WORK HAS BEEN DONE ON THE BOAT. PROOF IS ENCLOSED IN THE EMAILS BELOW. PROLINE HAS NOW TOLD US TO PICK UP OUR BOAT AND WANT NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. WE HAVE BEEN SCREWED BY THEM AND OUR BOAT IS ONLY 1 YR OLD.

IN FEBRUARY 2005 WHILE AT THE MIAMI BOAT SHOW, WE (BRAD, WARREN AND SHAUN) DECIDED TO BUY A PROLINE BOAT. THE DEALER AT THE SHOW REPRESENTING PROLINE WAS DAVEY MARINE FROM DAVEY, FLORIDA (FT LAUDERDALE). WE ENTERED INTO A AGREEMENT WITH THEM TO BUY A 25 SPORT PROLINE BOAT.

WE TOLD DAVEY WE WERE LOOKING AT RAYMARINE ELECTRONICS FROM WEST MARINE AND THEY ASKED US TO SEND IN WHAT WE WERE LOOKING AT AND PROVIDE THEM AN OPPORTUNITY TO QUOTE US.

Subject: Electronics for your ProLine

Dear Shaun,

I am pleased to provide the information you requested regarding electronics for your new ProLine.

It looks like we can save you about $116 off the pricing that you sent me when comparing the 5 items on your e-mail. The total for the same 5 units came to $3443.

We can install the GPS/DF/FF for $200 and install the radar for $300.

The only other items we suggest you add would be a tower for the dome (a special mount that will allow the signal to be consistent when the boat is on plane) for $235 and a new light bar for $69. Once the equipment is installed your light won't be tall enough.

I can prepare a new invoice for your lender with the total price of the boat with the electronics so that it can be included in the financing.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Best regards,

Laura U**

What is the price difference if we went with the C or E 120.

We would like to add a numerical key pad and is your quote with the transducer in the hull or outside?

Shaun,

If you go with the E120 it would be $1250 additional.

The transducer is outside (transom mount).

My electronics mgr doesn't know what you mean by numerical key pad. Could you give me more details and how do you want to use this item?

Thanks,

TOOK DELIVERY. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS THE FINAL INVOICE ATTATCHED. WE TOOK DELIVERY ON OR ABOUT JUNE 15 2005

THE FIRST TIME WE USED THE BOAT, WE HAD A COMPLETE ELECTRONIC FAILURE LESS THAT 1 MILE OUT OF THE MOUTH OF TAMPA BAY. I CALLED INTO DAVEY AND WAS TOLD TO DO A MASTER REST, BY RESETTING THE FUSE. THIS WAS DONE, BUT THE NEXT FEW TIMES WE WERE OUT, WE HAD TO DO MULTIPLE RESETS. LAURA ASKED PROLINE TO CONTACT US. WE WERE AUTHORIZED TO CALL A MOBILE ELECTRICIAN TO COME AND LOOK AT THE BOAT. WE WERE ASKED TO FAX THE INVOICE AND PROOF OF PAYMENT TO JOHN VALENTINE AT PROLINE. THIS AMOUNT WAS NEVER REIMBURSED.

WE ASKED DAVEY:

Laura

Proline asked me to send you the pictures that the Marine Electrician took, who came to work on the boat. Brad will fax you the Invoice, but Proline said they will take care of it.

My concern is the wiring on the Raymarine electronics. The person who looked at the boat is a certified Raymarine installer and he said the quality of the electronic install is extremely poor and we are going to continue to have electrical problems with them. He said the splices are poorly done, some not necessary and most not protected from the elements and the install is overall badly done.

He also said one of the reasons we lost power, could be due to the fuses and battery connectors being in the bilge level, and if they got wet, it could short out the entire boat, as what happened last Saterday.

Please let me know how to solve these issues.

Thanks for the info you provided. We are looking into it with ProLine.

The fax you sent from the Ray Marine rep didn't say anything about the wiring for the electronics just the wiring for the battery and the breakers which were installed by ProLine.

Please give us the name of the person you dealt with at the electronics company.

We are going to contact him for more info and let you know what we found out.

Also, the boat you traded in has an audible alarm going off constantly when the engine starts. Do you know the reason?

Thanks,

Hi Laura

Please see if we can get the electronics sorted out. We turned on the radio while out fishing and all the electronics shut down and we had to come back in on the compass. I checked them later when we were washing down the boat and they suddenly worked again.

We had to replace the one battery it was not taking a charge. The Interstate dealer would not replace the battery as it was purchased in April 04 and they only have a 12mth warrenty.

We have some items that need to be repaired under warranty.

The raw water wash down pump sounds like it's about to break, this may be due to a leak we found recently in the plumbing near the wash down. Water is spraying all over the inside of the boat and as a result the cleat won't pop up. It probably rusted underneath.

We are still having problems with the raymarine electronics. They now think that radar won't work because the cable may have been damaged when Proline replaced the T Top. The stereo worked for a week after the T Top was replaced and has not worked since.

Can you please arrange for us to get these items repaired.

It is not practicle to send it back. The DSM is installed in the console and I would have to get way on to the wiring of the console and I dont want to do that. I am speaking with Proline in the morning to get their standing on this

Response (George Martin) 05/23/2006 02:10 PM

Is it practical for you to return the DSM and C series display here for the upgrades and testing, this will be covered under warranty, if not I can get you the proper software for the DSM and you can try loading it up yourself.

Customer (Shaun) 05/23/2006 12:37 PM

What about the software and DSM problem. This is not an instalation problem. I was wanting this entire system fixed. I will pay for it and get it back from Proline.

Customer (Shaun) 05/23/2006 12:27 PM

I will forward this to Proline and see what they say

Response (George Martin) 05/23/2006 09:20 AM

We cannot authorize the dealer to go to your boat and guarantee that the work will be paid for under some type of warranty charge.

Your installation was done by a Marine dealer who is not part of our warranty program.

Your products are under warranty and if they are removed from the boat they will be serviced under warranty. If there is some type of problem on the boat dealing with the installation this will have to be paid by you, then you'll have to go back to Pro line to get them to take care of the charges.

Since Pro Line is the OEM for your products they should be responsible for any installation failures that may have taken place.

Customer (Shaun C**) 05/22/2006 05:05 PM

I need to know when this will be away from Thursday out the counrty and need to have som resolution by the time I get back. I can have someone follow up to ensure you have accsess to the boat

Customer (Shaun C*) 05/19/2006 04:43 PM

It was installed by Davey Marine in Fort Lauderdale. They are an Authorised ProLine dealer.

Response (George Martin) 05/19/2006 04:02 PM

You certainly are in the one year time frame for onboard warranty but it would be nice to know who actually did the installation.

Was a Pro line? Or was it an authorized dealer that Pro Line hired to do the installation, we really do need to know this.

Thank you, George

Customer (Shaun C**) 05/19/2006 02:52 PM

We took delivery on 6/16/2005 and it was installed at the time of delivery, so I do not have the exact date it was installed. I assume it was a few days before.

Please let me know how soon you can get someone out to the boat

Response (George Martin) 05/19/2006 02:39 PM

If Pro line did the installation or have an authorized dealer do the installation it should not be a problem getting somebody to go to your boat and look at this equipment, we will have to verify this before. Do you know when the actual installation was done as far as the date is concerned.

Thank you

Customer (Shaun C**) 05/19/2006 01:44 PM

I was told to update the C80,nothing was said about the DSM.

Why cant Raymarine send a tech to the boat??

My boat was new and it came new, installed with the boat. I am asuming Proline had an Authorized Raymarine installer install the equipment.

Response (George Martin) 05/19/2006 01:29 PM

Are you seeing any no data message on the radar screen, this would indicate that the C80 and the radar were not talking to each other.

The software upgrade that was needing to be done was to the DSM module not to the Cseries, you may want to return your Ceries display here to see if we can determine what's going on with, it is that possible.

Also was your equipment installed by a RayMarine dealer or did you do the installation yourself.

Customer (Shaun C*) 05/19/2006 01:18 PM

I was told to go to the C80 and upgrade the software from the website. I did this. As my unit is less than a year, I have no idea what software it was loaded with.

The radar shows nothing, I asume the C80 is not seeing the radar

Response (George Martin) 05/19/2006 12:45 PM

Let's start with the software upgrade that you did, did you do an upgrade to the DSM module or did you upgrade the software in the C. series.

If you did the C series upgrade from what version to what version did you go..

what is the problem with the radar do you not see targets or is the C series not recognizing that the radar is connected to it.

My business partner, Brad spoke to Joe over at Sunray on Friday last week. All of the proline warranty work has been taken care of. Thank you for this.

The electronics appears to be an issue. Joe told Brad that Raymarine won't fix it due to the installation done by Davey Marine. They went so far as to say that Raymarine will void any warranty on the hardware due to the poor installation. I have been told that both Sunray and Raymarine could not get a call back from Davey Marine.

The reason we had the dealership install this so that we would have a professional warranted install of the electronics. Davey should have said they are not Raymarine installers, or at least had an authorized installer do the work.

You mentioned to me during a previous conversation that we may be able to take it to a marine electronics place, I think we need to look at this option.

I need to know how we handle my damaged motor that was due to electronics failure.

Subject: RE: Boat repairs

John

We are extremely frustrated with this entire experience with Proline Boats. We had many options when it came to purchasing a boat and ended up going with Proline as the quality was thought to be of a high standard and we believed that Proline would stand by their warranty and customer service. Brad one of our partners in this boat had previously owned a used Proline and was happy with the boat. This has clearly not been the case with this boat of ours. When I discussed this with you at 4.10 pm today, I was told I would receive a call back from you, at the time of sending this email, I had not received a call back.

As you can see from your response in the prior email below I was ensured by you that this process would not take long. On your instructions the boat was delivered to Sunray for warranty work. The boat was delivered, I believe in the second last or last week of June. This would mean we have been waiting about 6 weeks for warrantee work to be done, that at this stage nothing has not been done to repair our boat. This is extremely poor customer service.

In July 2005, we had problems with poor wiring and as a result we had a battery go bad.( See email below) Davey Marine authorized us to get a local marine electronics tech out. We were to pay for the repair and be reimbursed. He identified electrical issues with the boat and these were sent to Davey Marine. They asked us to send the invoice and proof of payment to Proline for reimbursement, as of today we have never been reimbursed. This should have been a red flag to us as to the quality of customer service we should expect from Proline and their dealers.

We would like to have been in a position to use the boat regularly and with the kids on summer vacation this has been an extreme inconvenience to us all, all the while making boat payments and paying marina fees, insurance etc.

This is the second time our boat has been out of the water for an extended period of time due to quality issues with the boat.

The next issue is the Raymarine equipment installed by a Proline dealer on our new boat. I know that both Raymarine and Sunray have had little response from Davey Marine in resolving this issue. As I have discussed with you previously and sent you email proof, our equipment failed the very 1st time we used it and had to call Davey Marine from the water to help us. We rode 40 miles out to go fishing only to have our electronics' fail and have had to turn around and come back in on the compass, we wasted a day and wasted of a tank of gas.

I have attached a copy of an email sent from Davey Marine where they offered to beat the price I had been given by a Raymarine dealer and offered to do the install. Davey Marine is not an authorized Raymarine installer and by knowingly doing the install have potentially voided the warranties on the Raymarine equipment. The failure of this is equipment is a safety issue and with this poor installation there has been a clear disregard for Proline's customer's safety. We damaged our motor as a result of the electronics failure and no one has offered to replace the damaged part.

Its time to draw the line.

Unless we receive a satisfactory conclusion to the issues on our boat we will have no option but to consult our attorney to take care of this issue.

We expect nothing less than our warranty work to be done by next Friday, August 8, 2006

A resolution to the Raymarine equipment, (its installation and operational issues) by August 8 2006.

A resolution as to who is going to pay for a new lower unit for our motor and when it will be repaired, by next Friday.

Proline has the option of taking back the boat and refunding us the money we used to purchase the boat and we will purchase another boat from a different builder.

Should we not have this resolved in the time period mentioned above, we will have no option to go the legal route.

Subject: RE: Boat repairs

Shaun I am sorry you feel the way you do towards Proline boats. We work very hard to please our customers. I sent an email yesterday to Sunray and told them to get on your boat and get it done. I have called you three times and left a message for a call back. I always follow up with all my customers. I will call Sunray and see what the hold up is. This has nothing to do with the way our customer service works. This is the repair center itself. I will get your boat fixed and I will contact Davey once more on the electronics.

Thank You

John

Thank you for the response.

As you are aware we are extremely frustrated with this process and we don't believe that you as a representative of Proline feel that we should not be. This needs to be resolved, and fast, if not we need to sell this boat and buy a boat that we can use. Our boat has been unusable for a considerable amount of time between this issue and the broken T Top. Unfortunately this experience does reflect the way Proline customer service works.

We are holding Proline accountable for this boat and in turn expect Proline to hold their dealers accountable. You say you have told Sunray to get on it and get it done, but by when. You state you are going to contact Davey, but you don't state when this will be resolved. John I need dates and time when this will work will be completed. That way we can hold Proline accountable and Proline can hold their dealers accountable.

Thank you for your prompt response. Its time for Proline to prove themselves.

It was good speaking with you today.

As we discussed, please provide me with a detailed listing (model and serial number) of the Electronic equipment in need of service on your Pro Line 25 Sport.

If you have a proof of purchase, I will need a copy of that for warranty consideration with the equipment manufacturer. Once I have the necessary documentation from you, I will prepare a work order and contact you for an appointment with our service technician on your boat.

In your reply, please provide your mailing address and contact information (I have your cell number).

WE COLLECTED THE BOAT, BUT BEFORE WE CAN LEAVE THEY INSIST WE PAY THE BILL AS THE WORK DONE HAD NOT BEEN AUTHORIZED BY PROLINE AND THEREFORE OUR RESPONSIBILITY. WE PAID THE BILL, AS ONE ITEM WE HAD ASKED THEM TO DO FOR US AS AN EXTRA.

WE THEN RECEIVED A REPORT FROM HWH, THEY TOLD US WHAT OUR PROBLEMS WERE. THEY WERE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS THE ELECTRONICS EXPERT HAD TOLD US ALMOST 10 MONTHS PRIOR. THEY WERE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS THAT WEST MARINE HAD TOLD US.

Jim

Brad asked me to forward this chain of events to you.

I f needed Brad can fax you the list of items that Sunray were to have repaired, it is really something that should have been repaired in less than I week.

The report from HWH ties in with my 1st email to Davey dated June 30 2006. The concerns the marine electrician had about the Raymarine install and the wires and fuse in the bilge then, are the exact same concerns mentioned in HWH's report. Nothing has ever been done from the 1st inspection and according to HWH still remains a problem.

I have cut and pasted these emails so as to keep a chronological order. If any specific emails are required I can email them separately.

I have put in comments in red to assist with the flow of events.

Please start at the bottom and read upwards.

JIM, FROM PROLINE CALLED BRAD AND TOLD HIM THAT HE HAD CONTACTED DAVEY AND WE WERE TO EXPECT A CALL FROM DAVEY AS PROLINE WAS WASHING THEIR HANDS OF US, AND WE NEEDED TO TAKE THE BOAT BACK TO DAVEY MARINE IN FT LAUDERDALE.

BRAD DID RECEIVE A CALL FROM MARIO FROM DAVEY WHO WAS EXTREMELY ARROGANT AND ABRASIVE ON THE PHONE AND TOLD BRAD THAT DAVEY WAS NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT OUR BOAT, HE SAID THE ELECTRONICS WAS OUR PROBLEM DUE TO POOR MAINTAINACE. THIS SEEMS STRANGE AS THIS IS THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS THAT WERE DIAGNOSED AFTER WE HAD ONLY USED THE BOAT A FEW TIMES.

BRAD CALLED JIM AND TOLD HIM OF THE SITUATION. JIM SAID HE WOULD DISCUSS IT WITH THE RELEVANT PEOPLE AND GET BACK WITH US. TO DATE WE HAVE HAD NO RESPONSE FROM PROLINE.

WE DID HOWEVER SEND THIS EMAIL:

From: Trinity Property Investments [mailto:[email protected]]

Sent: Monday, September 25, 2006 1:19 PM

To: '[email protected]'; 'Warren McGregor'; Brad Rooyen' ([email protected])

Subject: 25 ft Proline

Jim

We have discussed the situation with the boat and your recommendation to take it back to Davey Marine.

Here are the concerns:

1. Mario (who I believe is one of the owners of Davey) was adamant that they were not going to help us.

2. His tone in dealing with a customer was completely unacceptable, and with his attitude are we not going to have continued issues?

3. If we take it back how long will they take to do the warranty work, as Sunray had the boat for 3 months and did nothing?

4. Is Davey willing to correct everything on our list?

5. If so, will we get that in writing?

6. Davey is not a Raymarine authorized installer; will they provide proof that the repairs (recommended by HWH and the previous marine electronic expert back in 7/1/2005) will be completed by an authorized company?

7. What role will Proline play in this, and what is the solution if we get a run around from Davey and broken promises, as we did with John Valentine and Sunray Marine?

If you could please respond to these concerns so that we can try and move forward to get our boat back on the water.

You got burned on your boat because the company won't back their product. Why not cut your losses and have a real marine electrician solve the problem, it really doesn't sound that serious. Sounds like one of more loose connections, or maybe a short. I'm not familiar with your brand of boat, but I've re-wired three boats and found all sorts of shortcuts were taken by the boat-maker to save money. From using the cheapest components to no weather-proofing, they build them as cheaply as they can and aren't really interested in helping you after they have your money. I know it's frustrating but having it fixed by an independent would be less frustrating than dealing with this crap. I would be afraid to take the kids out on it based on what you've written here. Finally, don't forget to tell every boater you meet of your experience with Proline.
