PC Smart Care Won't stop calling. Sold my name and phone number to other scammers. Nationwide and India
Like other posters, I was trying to set up a new D-Link router and ended up talking to PC Smart Care as D-Link's tech support. Like other posters, they did the whole put software into my computer and tell me I have malware which was preventing my computer from connecting to my new router and clean my computer all for $100. I still think the whole thing was an absolute scam, but my report today concerns the fact that this was 3.5 years ago, a different computer and router, and they won't stop calling me!!
For the last 3.5 years, they called infrequently, only every few months. In the past month, they started calling from different numbers several times a day. Despite the fact that I've asked them repeatedly to stop calling, they continue to call and refuse to stop even when on the phone. The worst part is that now I believe they have sold my name and number to several other, similar places that are calling me between 8 and 10 times a day, all with New Jersey phone numbers. These people either hang up when I answer, or if they do answer, they tell me the whole scammer spiel about how they received an error message from my ISP and that my computer has been compromised and they need to fix it.
This morning my boyfriend took the call and the language from both sides was quite colorful. The caller did not refrain from saying "F--- You" and "go to hell" to my boyfriend. I can't block all the numbers they call from fast enough because they use so many. Beware ever doing anything with these crazy people. My cell phone is my business phone so I can't change my number which is probably the only way to get rid of the problem.
