The Payless Car Rental operating out of the Pittsburgh Airport is a tiny franchise run out of a hardware store in Johnstown. They screwed up my rental extension, and are trying to charge me over $1,000 for the extra week I had the car as they claim I never called to extend (weekly rate was $120 booked through Travelocity)
Scarier, however, is that they have a clause forcing you to settle all disputes in Cambria County -- and the controller who works out of the Ace Hardware store in Johnstown is apparently so "in" with local law enforcement that I'm being extorted to either pay the ridiuclous extra $1,000 dollars (my rental in it's entirety for the first 3 weeks was $503 including taxes) or face a criminal mischief charge!
Do not, under any circumstances, get involved with these people in anyway. Both the hardware store guy (presumably the owner) and the detective told me they do this to people all the time. What a scam -- they get to screw people over then bypass the whole civil court system by having their buddies threaten you!
Regardless of how much extra it costs, you're clearly better off dealing with a large national company than a tiny franchise in a small town -- I'm surprised Travelocity exposed me to them.
