One Hour Photo Max's aggressive treatment of African Americans is unbelievable to witness. The couple that work the front desk (I believe they are the owners) have verbally abused more than ten African American patrons. The man, who speaks with a thick Asian accent,can not be understood unless he speaks slowly. Instead, he has repeatedly screamed and insulted patrons when questioned about the ever-changing prices and incorrect receipts for the development of photos. And the woman, who seems to only speak the words, "Cash or Charge", does nothing to resolve conflicts.

It is important to note that this business is located in central downtown Chicago. The variety of ethnicities of the patrons that handle business and live in this area is large and diverse. So it is confusing why an obvious immigrant with a viable business in America, would discriminate against another minority.

When visiting the shop with other White patrons, the demeanor and overall service is different. The couple smile, offer help, and negotiate pricing. They are even thanked for their business on their way out. However, African Americans are given a set price, asked how they would like to pay (always UP FRONT), and are rushed out the door. This treatment even continued after I spent over $60 on my first order. When I questioned the pricing of my second order, I was berated with loud, sarcastic comments. The man got even louder and more obnoxious when I continued to ask him to slow down and simply explain the bill and bogus receipt, because White patrons witnessed his obvious complete transformation in personality.

It is also important to note that these African Americans that have complained are also in the modeling field and are well versed in the particulars of ordering photos. We also spend a great deal of money updating our books and comp cards. This means that we spend money on a consistant basis. So it is satisfying to know that the people that have complained, along with myself, will be taking that substantial business elsewhere.
